Orangeish brown, thin head. Malty, spicy aroma with big sage and seeming cinnamon, even some cherry and mintyness. Very nuanced and difficult to pull apart. Flavor is initially quite sweet and then turns to some herbal bitterness. The juniper berries really start to come through in the flavor. Malt profile is vaguely barleywine-like with a bit of roastedness, but the herbal additions predominate. Certainly adequate bittering, but has a bit of a cooling aspect to it. Definitely original and well done.

Bottle. Pours a dark murky brown with a medium yellowish brown head. Aroma has notes of caramel with an undertone of juniper and sage. Flavor was thick from caramel at the start with a dry finish from the juniper with hints of sage.

Deep dark brown, pour with minimal head. Aroma is spicy, with slightly minty undertones, some malt sweetness. Interesting flavor--spicy, but not as spicy as I was prepared for. There’s a refreshing herbal presence--almost minty, but not quite. Maybe the Juniper? Don’t really know what Juniper tastes like. Also sweet malts, and a lingering, almost astringent aftertaste. Interesting and complex (and tasty).

Shared bottle at Lunar Brewing Co. Chose a Czech-pils glass to participate, and observed a brownish mahogany color with a modest, light tan head that reduced to a ring, film, and some clingy spots that all decided to last for awhile. The nose was an array of spice complexity. Most notable notes to me were ginger bread spices, nuttiness, and hints of peppermint/menthol at the back of the aroma. The complex spice notes were a more mellow but pleasant blend in the flavor, along with smooth malt, and some dark fruit sweetness that was tempered by a moderate, rounded hop bitterness. Also sensed a nice, light silkiness in the nose that continued in the mouthfeel. Probably the most unique holiday brew that I’ve tried to date.

Bottle thanks to bman1113vr. Pours a deep, dark brown with light tan head. Aroma of some light funk, light berry, spicy and herbal. Flavor is spicy, a little pepper, herbal, light fruit and malt. Mouth feel is medium-heavy body with low-medium carbonation. Overall, not bad at all and kinda warming....good stuff!

11.12.09 bottle. Pours dark amber with tan head. Aroma of juniper, ginger, pine, sweetness, malty. Tastes burnt toast, bitter, mild spice - more mild than the nose. Dry with slight oily finish.

Pours clear dark brown with very little head. Aroma is quite spicy and fruity, slightly acidic. Taste- toffee, lemon and alcohol. Thick syrupy texture, low carbonation.
