el_caballo (101), Beverly Hills, California, USA Apr 28, 2008 Updated: May 9, 2008 From the Firken fest, a sweet taste that hides the booze well. Nice reddish brown color to it. The oak flavor comes through a it strong for me, but its nice and tasty nonetheless. Much better than the oaked arrogant bastard.
JMFG (1140), Florida, USA Aug 27, 2008 On tap @ Stone, RBSG. Deep amber color, thin light white head. Heavily tannic aroma over rich malts, peppery hops and alcohol. Slight vanilla also. Taste has a defined alcoholic burn along with a defined spiciness given off by the hops and oak. Very much more oak forward than the brandy barrel version, but I really like the fresh oak characters, so I dug this one. hopscotch (4485), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 27, 2008 Draft... RBSG ‘08... Hazy, brilliant orange ale with a small, creamy, white head. Terrific retention. Muted, sweaty, woodsy nose. Full-bodied and very smooth with soft carbonation. Caramelly, malty flavor with sufficient bitterness to keep things in balance. Lengthy, bitter finish. jsh12bama (215), Alabama, USA Aug 23, 2008 Draft @ Stone bistro. ’06 version. Huge oak aroma and flavor. Smooth mouthfeel. Nice vanilla flavor. Good sipping beer. doubleo (762), San Diego, California, USA Aug 10, 2008 On-tap at STone the day after the RBSG get together. Menu said "06 Double Bastard w/ French Oak. I assumed that meant it was oaked like AB is oaked thus I am putting my rating here. Pours reddish amber with a whispy, offwhite head. Smells spicy, dark hoppy with a big sweet wood presence as well. Sweet malt flavors hit the tongues first and then a ton of sweetness from the wood. Sweet oak flavors throughout and to the finish with a bit ofspicy hops and some alcohol. Full body, good carbonation. yespr (6373), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 7, 2008 From tap at Stone Bistro, as Double Bastard French Wine Barrels. Pours hazy brown with a lacing tan head. Dense wineous aroma with a dense caramel presence. Smooth and very grape fruity flavour. Dense caramel presence. Mild spiced too. Warming finish.
