500 mL bottle from the brewery, served in a stem glass next to the 2012 standard vintage and the oak smoked variant. Pours clear mahogany with a small tan head that mostly fades and leaves trace lacing. The nose has beautiful notes of oak, red wine, molasses, dark fruit, apples and cherries. The flavour is perfectly balanced between fruity, red winey notes on the one hand and huge toasted oak along with biscuity malts and complex hoppy notes. The finish is long and fruity, hoppy, complex, beautiful. On the palate, it is light-medium in body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is an amazingly complex, beautiful barley wine. Red wine barrels provide an unexpected degree of complexity that perfectly complements this barley wine. Toasty and delicious, I wish I had another bottle. 2013-11-07

500mL silk screen bottle shared at Congregation Azusa. Clear amber pour with minimal foam. Nose is excellent vanilla, toasted marshmallow, flambeed cherry. Nice. Taste is tomato paste, sugar, tannic wood, astringent bark. Dusty, old mouthfeel.

Bottle... Poured murky, ruby/reddish with a mild, light tan head. Some oxidation and tannins on the nose. Good amount of tannins in the flavor with a big brown sugar note to move it along. Mild fruity notes and vinous oak. Toasted grains and a big alcohol warmth. Interesting.

Cloudy orange amber pour with a wispy sandy tan head. Oxidized malt in the nose, lots of rich and dark dried fruits. Prune and raisin upfront. Some burnt sugar and caramel as well. Malty flavor with lots of dried fruits. Dry fruit and burnt sugar. Full/rich body with a tannic feel and some heat on the finish.

Sample from a 500ml bottle, thanks to brew3crew for sharing. Clear golden orange color. Thin slightly off-whtie head. Decent lace. Nice orange - citrusy nose. Some wood. Light tannins. Bigger body. Very light carbonation. Lightly dry in the finish. Moderate sweet taste. Light bitter. Solid, interesting stuff. I liked the bourbon version better, though

This one is a pretty solid one. Blend of red wines but it doesn’t take away form the classic base beer.

500 ml bottle. Clear deep amber red to brown with a large fluffy off white head. Strong fruity aroma with a big malty caramel and molasses back bone. Hints of grape, pear, and cherry come through on the nose with oaky vanilla notes. Thick, creamy, slightly sticky full bodied palate. Great complexity to the taste. Flavors of caramel, molasses, toffee, and cereal grain up front, transitioning into berry, pear, and apple flavors, and finishing smoothly with hints of dark fruit, cherry, vanilla, and oak. Outstanding.
Earlier Rating: 3/20/2009 Total Score: 4.5
Growler fill from stone. A lot like the regular O.G. But with some pleasant red wine and mild oak notes to the aroma and taste primarly on the back end of tasting with a slight roasted coconut flavor in the back of the throat. Palate is a little more rounded and smooth.
