When our illustrious brewing team spiked a few barrels of the Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine with our Belgian yeast strain last year, we absolutely loved it. So much, in fact, that we knew we needed an excuse to make more. So, in our unending quest to constantly challenge the status quo (even our own), we came up with Odd Beers for Odd Years, a program to release odd beers – e.g. Stone Old Guardian BELGO Barley Wine – in odd years (2011, 2013, 2015…). It was met with a bit of resistance (to say the least) since we weren’t originally offering the traditional Old Guardian alongside it, but we’ve mended our ways and decided to make both. You’re welcome.

Draught at TND: A muddy, mixed up aroma of Belgian yeast, hops, light Brett, slight oak, and slight vanilla. Poured copper/orange in color with a small, creamy, dense, off-white head that lasted throughout. Hazy. Sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and light to medium bitter. Tastes of Brett, alcohol, hops, Belgian yeast, oak, and vanilla.Medium body. Dry texture. Average carbonation. Light Brett, Belgian yeast, hops, malt, and oak finish is dry. 11.2%ABV is noticeable but well hidden.

[BCTC 2010] Hazy red brown color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of cherries, citrus, dark fruits, floral hops, caramel malts, spices, and alcohol. Taste of more cherry with more Belgian spices, caramel, citrus fruits, pine, grass, and some alcohol in the finish.

BCTC 2010, OG lightly tamed & altered by the addition of Belgian yeast. Still very rich & aggressive but with a little Belgian floralness added. Still boozy & strong but with a new unique twist. didnt seem to alter it all that much though.

A damn fine beer, I would drink it until my liver gave way. Nothing offensive at all, just beer bliss. Would get again fo sho. One of my favorite bnarleywines ive had. The yeast gave it a huge peach flavor, very fruity, it went so well with the simple C60 body and that year’s hop profile. really prefer this over the regular and i love the regular OG

Growler, RBWG 2010. Pours a hazy copper body with a minimal off-white head. Heavy fruity Belgian character on the nose with light citrusy hops and some sweet caramel. Nice fruity malt and floral hop flavor up front with a lightly caramel malt base. Tastes very un-Stone like. Medium bodied with light fizzy carbonation. Some nice tangerine notes on the finish. Very nice. I think I’d choose this over regular OG.

Dark amber brown color with a small head. Aroma has a lot of spice and bread with some sweetness and yeast. Flavor is sweet and loaded with spice and must. Full body and the yeast really shines. Good idea but I didn’t really love it.
