3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours ruby red and clear, with a rough pour a good head and lacing. Aroma is initially smoke and oak then as it warms it takes on a cherry hint with grassy hops. Taste is bitter for a barleywine and follows arom in nuance. palate is a bit thin but not out of style. overall it’s an interesting experiment and I’d bet it ages well. but right now it’s a bit all over the place.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Viscous feel even when pouring. Dark brown, hazy body and minimal tan head. Faint aroma with some malts and a little bit of smoke. Soft mouthfeel and little carbonation. Taste is a little bit bitter. Smoke is barely recognizable.
It’s a little bit odd because this beer feels a lot more like a double IPA than a barley wine to me. The non-smoked old guardian is one of my all time favourites and I don’t recall it being anything like this.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Phoenix bottle. Bronze color with a nice foamy, khaki head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt and peaty smoke. Bold flavor that starts with a nice American style barley wine (more hops) and finishes with some nice, mellow smoke. Lingering bitterness. Pretty tasty.

Bottled 0,65l @Beer Hunters
Clear deep ruby color, small off-white head. Rye, alcohol, wood and smoke in the nose. Medium-bodied. Boozy, oak-woody smokeyness, some bitterish hops, but mostly covered by alcohol. Surpisingly alcoholic beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nice barley wine but not as smoked as I would have liked. Copper pour with a lot of floaties. The aroma had a heavy malt presence with some vanilla. Taste brought some slight hop bitterness and a little smoke. The booze was there but not in the forefront. Grainy mouthfeel. Pretty good stuff, that I wish could have been great.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
22 oz for 8 bucks. Pours a thick copper with a small ivory head. Aroma is mainly malts with a floral hop and oak backing. Taste is heavily malty with a oak and hop bitterness at the end. A slight alcohol burn too. Body is quite full with a thick, creamy texture. This might be the best barleywine I have had so far. Easy to drink and very strong. It masks the high ABV well but leaves just enough of it in to let you know it’s there. Highly recommended.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Not nearly as smokey as I had hoped, still a fine barley wine though. The high abv is well hidden in the thick malt body.
