Pours hazy copper orange with a small off white head. The nose is BBQ, smoke, caramel and apple. The taste is medium sweet and medium high bitter with a bitter finish. The texture is oily, the body is heavy and the finish is long.

2013 Vintage. 22 oz bomber purchased at Mount Airy Liquor Store in Mount Airy, Maryland. The pour is a hazed copper beige orange, with a 1/2 inch light tan head. Nice lace. The aroma is char smoke roast right away, lightly sweet raisin fruit malt behind that. The taste is the smoke char along with sweet malt, and then turns to a sharp alcohol. The palate is medium bodied, lingering smoke sweet alcohol finish. Nice nose, the taste does integrate the smoke all that well.

Pours a hazy deep amber with a creamy off white laci g head. Aroma of smoked malt, vanilla, oak, caramel, citrus and dark fruits. Flavor of vanilla, cherries, dark fruits, citrus, oak and smoked cherry wood.

Draft at Trinity Brass Tap. Pours a clear dark amber color with a foamed tan head. Nearly solid sheet of lacing along the glass. Aroma has nice smoke, wood and vanilla notes. Flavor is robust with smoke, vanilla, bourbon, and wood notes. Alcohol is well disguised, similar to the Belgian version.

Dark amber pour with a fluffy off-white head. Aroma is sweet, caramel. Flavor is also sweet. It’s much more mellow than the original Old Guardian. It’s maltier and a bit smoother. The alcohol is masked much better, too. One of the best barley wines I’ve had.

Pours a crystal clear medium amber with a dense and rocky tan head. Lots of lace. Sweet bacony nose, light peppery esters woven in. Creamy thick body, sluggish carb. Bacon, toast, and spicy notes on the mid palate. Long dryish finish. Interesting stuff.

22 oz bottle. Pours a deep amber with a beige froamy head. Beautiful lacing. Aroma of smoke, wood, caramel, citrus, and vanilla. Taste is much like the nose. Smoke, wood, citrus, pine, and hints of caramel and vanilla. A bit boozy on the finish. Def warms you up. Bitterness is a bit harsh. Harsh dry finish.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a dark amber/brown color with a sudsy beige head that dissipates to a film and subtle lacing. Aroma has big meat locker smoke and piny hops and blends into caramel malts. Taste has a good bitterness of piny hops and then the smoke comes through with jerky and a bit of camp fire and peat and hidden caramel malt and booze. Smell is more oakey than smokey. Taste is very boozy and smokey. I think this would be a great one to age so the flavors meld together more.
