3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks Chuck! Vintage 2005. Pours to a yellowish, off-white head atop a reddish/brown clear body. The aroma is malty, piney, hoppy, alcohol, caramel malts. The flavor has strawberry-leaf type hops, spiciness, buttery, light fruitiness, grassiness. The palate is overly malted sweetness + alcohol. Overall, not a bad beer, just really more alcohol to a strong alcohol night.

Bottled."2005 Special Winter ReleaseĒ Pours a rich orange/amber, with a fat off white head. Sharp pine/resin hops in the nose, backed with some alcohol notes and earthy caramel malts. Hops were more subdued in the flavor than I would have expected, I really enjoyed drinking this one fresh. Spicy and rich in complex flavors, very drinkable. (Well maybe not the whole bottle). I expected it to be as hoppy and as hard to drink as fresh SNBF, its not. Very Good!!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2004 Winter release: Rich ruby brwon hue with a small fading head and some lace. The aroma has notes of massive pine leaf hops, woody, vinous, and big caramelized/toffee malts. Noticed phenols as well. The taste is a sharp balance of bitters and malt. Works well and will only get get better with some aging (unless you are a hophead, then drink now). I like the spicy quality found on the finish along with the surprising dry wood notes. I dig this and am sure I will continue to in the future. An underrated barleywine IMO (if you could call this underrated).

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a lucid mahogany with a quickly dissipating beige head. Aroma is big on malt and alcohol, very caramely, with a slight hoppy bite. Flavor is quite astringent and alcoholic, with a sticky sweet, full-feeling body. Lots of hops in there. A hint of orange rind. Again, more alcohol in the finish. Itís quite in-your-face, but then again, it is from Stone.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber bottle. Pours a translucent amber-brown color with a nice foamy white head. Nose is big caramel malts, great hops, and fruitiness. Flavor is very toffee-malt...nice sweet malts balanced with piney, citric hoppiness. On draught or bottle...donít matter...itís all great. Alcohol is there, but the full bodied nature of this ale helps level it out. Big hop bitterness in the end. If this one ages like previous years then itís gonna be even better next year. Another Stone triumph.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours reddish/bronze with a quickly receding, off white head. Some nice deep fruitiness in the nose - plum and over ripe banana really standing out. The high ABV is present in the nose as well. Loads of spice overwhelm the subtle hints of bakerís chocolate in the body. A good barleywine.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Copper/bronze in color, thin head, some lace. Deep malty aroma, alcohol vapors hit sinuses, hop resins and more. Full, thicky chewy body. Caramelly, orange like sweetness, extremley rich malt flavors followed by the hop and alcohol onslaught but the brew is soo smooth, it hides it. Well at least until the end when the bitterness makes the sides of the tounge bleed. Not really cloying considering the body, and the pine resin burps after rock. Stone, nice job.
