An orange beer with a small disappearing off-white head. The aroma is of alcohol, peaches, and other fruits. The flavor has strong notes of peach, and the alcohol burns the mouth, but at the same time the mouthfeel is smooth, and the end dry. Nice one.

My rating no. 2000 is for a great beer from a great brewery poured to me by a great person, Greg Koch of Stone, at a Stone tasting session last sunday at Nørrebro Bryghus (home of North Bridge Extreme!).
2005 version (11,26%).
A hazy orange golden beer with a fine tan head. Very full and somewhat sticky aroma of malt and caramel with bitter hoppy notes. Powerful and well balanced with a bit of alcohol present.
Dominating caramel flavor with a lot of malt and hop. Bittersweet with notes of nut and spices. Extreme and very nice! Now on to the next 1000.....

Probably should not have drank this on a hot day. What can I say? It’s a Barleywine. Lots of great flavor, beautiful color for the style.

Golden, reddish. Moderate head. Raisins and honey notes. Very sweet malty finish. Alcohol is totally absent. Quite special, but not paticulary well balanced.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sweet barley wine aroma. Amber body with good white head that settled to a thin layer on top of beer. Sweet hop alcohol flavor to this one. Good beer if it is your last one for the night.

VINTAGE 2004.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice dark golden color, coppery I guess. Smallish, light tan head disappeared fairly quickly. Light citrus aroma, with hops, alcohol and something I couldn’t pin down. Kind of sweet. Flavor was a bit sweet as well, with noticeable alcohol, hops, and barely. Malt component was there but not overwhelming. Certainly not the best barley wine you’ll find, but fairly available and still very good. Not my favorite style but I was disappointed when the local retailers ran out before I could get a second bottle. 2005 vintage, 22 oz bottle.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
22 oz bottle. 2005 bottle. Poured orangey copper with some head that didn’t last too long. The aroma was caramel and other malts with some tangerine. Flavors were malty with sweetness and hops in there too. The alcohol comes out in the aftertaste. Very tasty.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2005 Bomber: It poured a deep copper color with a modest creamy, cream-colored head. Some tiny bubbles continually crawl upward through the brew at a snail’s pace. The aroma is a very sweet malt with some floral, herbal, and orange hop smells squeezing their way out at random intervals. The ale is thick and chewy with an alcohol bite. The flavor is mainly sweet malt balanced with an earthy hop taste. The latter’s bitterness, along with alcohol, kick in for a long dry finish. Not bad or overbearing for a 11.26% ABV (as opposed to 2004’s 10.06%) barley wine. I’d like to try this when aged a year or two.

Apple red color with no head. Sweet malty aroma with some alcohol. Actually a little light on the palate. Malt up front but resiny hop finish.
