4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Lets just say I have been anticipating this one for quite some time, and while I did not drink my 2004 bottle, I settled for a more recently found 2006 one. Pours out almost red in color with a head that goes away really quick. Upon opening the hops come out of the bottle but it is not as bitter as first smell lets you think it would be. Taste is sweet, malty, and just really good. I drank this before dinner, and I really don’t even feel like having any other beers. This is a really good one to drink if you want to just relax. Acutally it took me about 2 hours to drink a 22 of this. Damn good, seriously.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
2006 bomber. Copper-hued, stunningly clear with warp-drive bubbles. Subdued yet lasting beige head. Aromas of syrupy malt, hemp, tarragon, canned fruit salad, candycane, licorice, and complex aclohols. Initial cedary and nutty flavor becomes herbal, barbecuey, grapey, leathery. Hints at grilled tropical fruits and expensive shoe store. Ethanol superbly integrated. Full mouthfeel is just shy of cloying. Perfectly carbonated for the style. Longlasting aftertaste showcases smokey/bitter hop flavor, fig, and bitter-apple, yet has a pronounced carbon/burnt sugar quality that is almost bilous. Outstanding in most repects, yet off-centered in some way I can’t readily identify. Like nasty sex; flaws quickly forgotten at 11+ abv.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Sweet aromas. Some baked bread in there as well. Pours a cloudy golden color. Went well with some baked hoisin chicken I had. Full bodied and sweet fruit flavors. Awesome brew.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
(22oz Bottles. 03/2006). Initial, estery nose gives way quickly to sweet, bready aromas. Pours clear and deep amber. Yellowish, medium-sized head that lasts pretty nicely but does dissipate to a thin yellow film. Some metalic notes up-front. Hot. Balanced toward bitterness, medium-full to full bodied. Skewed toward hops the maltiness is barely perceptible but does reveal some bready, caramel notes. Some dried fruit in the aftertaste. With some time and oxidation, this could probably develop into a nicer beer.

4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Another solid brew from Stone Brewing Co. Aroma has a bit of alcohol, fairly mellow. Tastes quite hoppy, but very tame compared to a ruination or something like that. heavier mouthfeel. I’m generally not a big fan of the alcohol flavors, but this finishes very warm, and even the high alcohol% is not a problem with all the hops involved.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
UPDATED: MAR 27, 2007 2007: Pours a rich honey copper color w/ a medium sized, semi creamy froth. A full canopy w/ a thick and creamy ring of lace. Aroma is that of richly carameled leather. Full nectar w/ mellow residual effers creates a creamy texture. A decadent malt profile meets a persistant hop component that performs a beautiful balancing act. It takes alot to tame these two beasts but they work simultaneously in unison to create a work of art to be remembered. Flavors of viscous caramel, leather, and citrus rind are dominant. Then comes the apple nectar, vanilla, ripe black cherries, and a bit of toffee w/ a burnt match, sulpher saltiness. Theres a peachpit bittering on the finish that lingers forever breaking down the malty sweetness. It leaves my tongue parched. Awsome!
******2006 scores 3.7: Malted caramel nose. Pours a rich, thick nectar w/ minimal froth. Seemingly mellow from the nose, it comes right up from underneith you and bites you w/ raspy citrus blades. Big time malted caramel w/ a hop that steals the show leaving your palate useless. What ever may have been there is now gone. Not sweet at all. brb. moments later...wow, the flavor has changed drastically. Has become so mellow, where’d the citrus go ? Now I can grasp the candied fruit, even cinnamin, and leather. The followthrough is kinda week for these guys. I wanted more flavor. Overall; a good barley wine

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle, 2006 edition. Poured crystal clear deep copper into a tulip with a moderately lasting 1-finger beige foamy head. Body is mostly still. Looks absolutely beautiful. Fantastic nose with alcohol and dark fruits (mostly raisin & prune), big sweet malts. First taste is kick-in-the-face hops and alcohol. Hop character is somewhat indistinct, very bitter. The bitterness seems well controlled at first but becomes less so as I keep drinking. Malt is strongly present but very mellow, a little bit sweet. The finish starts out with brief sweetness and then becomes quite bitter lasting quite a while. The body is massive, befitting a barleywine, not quite syrupy, great mouthfeel on the whole with a little nose-tingling alcohol sensation as well. I’m impressed, but this could use some time in the cellar to sort out the hop profile.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This is a limited early 2006 release. Medium brown head goes quickly. Dark fruit, figgy caramel. Slight warmth from alchohol blended well but grows at the tail end of the palate. Same goes with the hops.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
What a lovely beer this is. If you can find yourself lucky enough to buy a bottle of this nectar then don’t pass it up. Hops in the nose along with some vanilla and malty sweetness. Flavor is what really sparks the interest in this beer as it’s fairly complex with hops, some tart fruit like cherries or a young orange, some toffee and dark fruits. This should be enjoyed all night long with someone you will enjoy it as much as you do. Outstanding.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Had a bottle of the early limited 2006 release. The aroma is of fruit. Pours a reddish golden. The flavor is fruity and very hoppy with a slight cloying finish.
