mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jun 23, 2008 Pours a slightly hazy amber with a lasting thin head & lacing. Pungent butterscotch aroma - nice! Tastes very, very sweet with very present alcohol. Very tasty - astringent & hoppy, slightly dry finish. Thick body with passable carb. I like this one, it’s very very sweet, though! Bigmmartin (366), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jun 21, 2008 Draft sample at Bier Tasting event at Boston’s Bistro & Pub.
Great appearance with an enticing aroma. Has a sweet finish, not much as far as bitter hops as some of other barley wines. Complex and tons of character.
12many (231), Ohio, USA Jun 21, 2008 A reddish-amber without much haze. Smokey sweet malts with some dark fruits and a small pinch of hops. Very warming and satisfying. hiphop (84), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 18, 2008 Brassy colour with minimal white head. Aroma hints at banana, caramel/toffee, nuts and hops. Suprisingly syrupy and pushing towards sweet. hop bitterness is present, but not as strong as i’d have first expected... esp. in a beer from Stone. the 11.26% abv is well hidden in this beer with the exception of the syrupiness. Excellent. blklab2007 (938), Connecticut, USA Jun 15, 2008 22 oz bottle poured into a snifter has an orange color with light carbonation and a thick half inch white foamy head that died to a ring in the glass. aroma has brown and candy sugar, caramel malt, vanilla, fruit, light oak, and alcohol. mouth feel is medium with a thickening but creamy. flavor has more alcohol than the nose, hefty sweet malt, brown sugar, some spice, wet herbs, oak again, licorice, and anise. the hops are there but well integrated and as it is drank it becomes smoother with every sip. finish is sweet with some bitterness. some interesting aroma and flavor twists and turns that had me interested to the last sip. HonkeyBra (1270), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jun 13, 2008 Pours a reddish orange with a fluffy head. Aroma is candy sugar, grapes, alcohol, sweet malt. Taste is pretty good for a barleywine. Sweet apples, port wine, brandy, spice, and very little alcohol. This is the only barleywine I’ve ever had that could be mistaken for an actual wine. Take that however you want. lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Jun 12, 2008 Glass: snifter

Great job, Stone, as per the usual. This brew was purchased to celebrate the finish of my summer 1 Mediation class at Rider University in the Graduate Program for Organizational Leadership. Clowdy copper beer with an off-white disappearing head; aroma is dried fruit and a touch of malt; silky feel, with a pronounced hop bitterness and dried fruit; finish is bitter in the mouth and warm in the throat. Hop is a bit large for my taste, (in this genre) but a good barley wine, nonetheless.
