A beautiful bold barley wine. Massive malt and hop notes. Silver Medal winner at the 2000 Great American Beer Festival in the Barley Wine category. Gold Medal winner at the 2002 World Beer Championships in the Barley Wine Category. Look for it in the first quarter of each new year. Can be cellared or enjoyed upon its release.

impressive beer. I expected a barley wine heavy in hops and bitterness, considering everything else that I have tried from Stone, but it had a suprisingly even finish. Great fruity/toffee aroma, with a caramel/toffee like flavor. Nice beer

The hops really take you by surprise wit this beer...great malt flavor with a lot of hop punch in the foretaste. Sweet fruit and yeast finish the beer smoothly, almost covering the alcohol taste completely.

Huge caramel on nose, same caramel in taste with surprisingly intense piney hop kick, intense maltiness in background but doesnt cover too pushy hops, bit bready, dried fruits. Hop syrup in two words. Well.. its interesting and enjoyable brew, but feels bit unbalanced for me as bitterness overcomes sweetness way too much ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I bought a 2008 last week, and i couldn’t resist opening it today. the smell is hoppy and sweet at the same time, i think maybe i can smell some cinnamon or something like it, it has a spicy aroma. smells heavy also, like a hot cider. at first i couldn’t smell any alcohol. but after the first taste it smells a little like a fine whiskey or scotch. the drink, when poured, is VERY cloudy (opaque really) and is the normal dark brown/orange color, but i think it looks a little purple or blue in the middle. doesn’t taste sweet because they have added a lot of bitter hops. no citrus taste here, folks. i like it, but it lacks some depth, i can’t really discern the flavors past the initial malt, and the subsequent hop aftertaste. not my favorite barleywine, but i recommend it.

clear amber orange with a stiff creamy head. Woody pine resin, bread and grapefruit, with alcohol notes in the nose. An alcohol perfume over sweet malt backed up by some nice tangy citrus and earthy hops. Definite alcohol warmth on the way down. Finishes with a thick, sweet coating that slowly fades to a sound hop bitterness.

22 0z. bottle of the early limited release 2008. pours a medium body orange /amber, with a small off white head. Aroma is faint subltle malt and sugar. Starts balanced and spicey. Malt sweetness is subtle. hops are slightly citrus and spicey. has a nice warming feel and has a bitter finish. Lacks the body/malt bill , and complexity I expect in a barleywine. Still a nice beer, but seems more of IIPA

Bottle 65 cl. Hazy amber with a small off-white head. Lots of malt - caramel, bread and some raisins. Fruity notes of peach. Quite some hops as well. Grapefruit aroma revealed on tasting. The flavor is initally sweet, leaving way to a long-lingering, subtle bitterness. The mouthfeel is burning with stinging carbonation.

Nice amount of deep hops and malts on the nose. Slight haze to the golden viscous fluid with slight head but lace that sticks like glue. Rich, expansive sweet liquid hits your mouth with a long lingering finish of hops.

slight hop profile, but mainly sweet barley wine aroma, that is just right and well balanced with the hops possibly a little bit of vanilla and strawbeery in there as well appearance is a light amber color, so far its looking to be an awesome beer, flavor is has some slight bitterness through the entire taste, but finishes pleasently sweet, i believe the balance between the hops and the sweet malt flavor is much better then that of the big foot ale, and the aroma is great, overall very good beer, and pretty different from your usual stone brews, but nonetheless a great addition to the beers
