4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a cloudy amber color with a thin white head. Aroma is very malty. Thick on the palate as expected for a beer of this style. The flavor is slightly sweet with a touch of alcohol on the finish. I like barley wines and this is a fine example of the style.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2008 Release from a 22oz bottle purchased locally at original time of release. Aroma is rich and malty with some hop spice. Color is amber with a small beige head, slightly hazy. Flavor is fairly bitter but balances with the malt. Not too sweet. Hops are piney. Some alcohol present. Thick but not too viscous. Finish lingers but dries in the end which is nice for a beer this big.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Hazy orange coloured with a fine off-white head. Very strong vinious aroma of raisins, plums and alcohol. The flavor is rather sweet and malty with a strong, warm taste of alcohol and fruit. Very full-bodied with notes of hops and spices.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark copper in color, nice thin head with small bubbles. Very sweet, big malty aroma. Tastes of malt and citrus, bitter finish with hops. Nice carbonation, very good mouthfeel. Good barley wine, you need to be ready for this one.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Early 2008 Release. Nice color and piney / sweet aroma. Flavor is not as malty and smooth as thought but has a bite of hops that seem to grow in flavor on your tongue. This beer will taste much better with a little age. As with all Stone Barley Wines I have tried, they are much better in a year or two.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours hazy orangish brown with a 2 finger head than dissipates to a 1/2 finger. Leaves a lot of lacing on the glass. Aroma of sweet malt and candied citrus. Taste is bitter sweet malt with a citrusy after taste. Can't really detect the almost 12%. Great beer for the price. Love this and Three Floyd's Behemoth, similar beers.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aged beer for 2 years. Beer poor somewhat hazy and pale with a solid white head. Aroma is dominated with a strong raisin quality, however, I recall the fresh version I had was dominated with a hop aroma. Beer taste is excellent with a slight sweetness, bitterness which balances the alchol content and overall raisin, roasty flavor. Overall beer is excellent. Best barley wine I’ve had.

’09 bomber. Pours golden amber with very thin ivory head. Mellow nose of vanilla, alcohol, and malt. Thin body. Alcohol is present in the middle. Taste of floral, malt, spice, honey and butterscotch. Hoppy warm finish. Meh.

Limited Early 2008 Release
Clowdy copper beer with an off-white disappearing head; aroma is dried fruit and a touch of malt; silky feel, with a pronounced hop bitterness and dried fruit; finish is bitter in the mouth and warm in the throat. Hop is a bit large for my taste, (in this genre) but a good barley wine, nonetheless.

First of all... I’m not usually a big barley wine drinker. They’re usually too sweet or too fruity, or too malty. This is a wonderfully balanced specimen. The aroma gives forth the malt characteristic. The initial taste lets me know there’s some nice hop backbone. Great beer!
