A beautiful bold barley wine. Massive malt and hop notes. Silver Medal winner at the 2000 Great American Beer Festival in the Barley Wine category. Gold Medal winner at the 2002 World Beer Championships in the Barley Wine Category. Look for it in the first quarter of each new year. Can be cellared or enjoyed upon its release.

Aged beer for 2 years. Beer poor somewhat hazy and pale with a solid white head. Aroma is dominated with a strong raisin quality, however, I recall the fresh version I had was dominated with a hop aroma. Beer taste is excellent with a slight sweetness, bitterness which balances the alchol content and overall raisin, roasty flavor. Overall beer is excellent. Best barley wine I’ve had.

’09 bomber. Pours golden amber with very thin ivory head. Mellow nose of vanilla, alcohol, and malt. Thin body. Alcohol is present in the middle. Taste of floral, malt, spice, honey and butterscotch. Hoppy warm finish. Meh.

Limited Early 2008 Release Clowdy copper beer with an off-white disappearing head; aroma is dried fruit and a touch of malt; silky feel, with a pronounced hop bitterness and dried fruit; finish is bitter in the mouth and warm in the throat. Hop is a bit large for my taste, (in this genre) but a good barley wine, nonetheless.

2013 vintage. Amber color. Thick head with good retention. Aroma of dried fruits and some malt sweetness. Some citrusy hop aroma is detectable. Thick mouthfeel. Sweet caramel with a well rounded complex flavor. Bold hop bitterness on the long finish.

Clear golden color with a medium size off-white head. No lacing. Pleasantly sweet with a fruity aroma and taste. Slightly bitter finish. Quite enjorable.

Pours medium, red-brown with a foamy, beige head. Massive hop aroma literally fills the room. Flavor is unsurprisingly hop forward, but is balanced in the middle with a nice crystal malt character and pleasant grain huskiness. The finish is characterized by a bit of roasted malt bite, like one would expect in a dry stout, and a fleeting metallic flavor. Medium, rounded body. Really complex and pleasing. This could only improve with age.

First of all... I’m not usually a big barley wine drinker. They’re usually too sweet or too fruity, or too malty. This is a wonderfully balanced specimen. The aroma gives forth the malt characteristic. The initial taste lets me know there’s some nice hop backbone. Great beer!

Bottle poured into snifter. Nice garnet color, big soapy slightly tan head, quite translucent. Exceptional aroma highlighted by traces of heavy malt, leather, earthy/piney hops, and caramelized sugar. Taste is more of the same goodness! Oaky and intensely malty notes give way to a splash of dark cherry and fig before drying out heavily on the sticky finish. Subsequent swallows bring it all back for revenge in the throat. Hell of a beer!

22 ounces of the bottled brew. Yummy fun. Caramel color, caramel aroma and...caramel flavor, with a slowly approaching, wonderful hops finish. Very high alcohol not apparent, except for its affect on brain cells...

On tap at the Blind Tiger in NYC. This beer is very thick and creamy, with a sweet and hoppy flavor that is in great balance. Its quite complex and has a long-lasting flavor profile. Earthy and alcohol finish. Great Barleywine.
