Ruby coloured, with a nice head and some lacing. Dark fruit, spice, brown sugar, and some alcohol on the nose, along with floral and fruity hops. The hops mixed with the malt body gave it a really juicy aroma. Tasted of toffee, spice, dark fruity, fruity and floral hops, and a bit of alcohol. Nice bitter finish. Creamy, sticky body with nice alcohol warming. Great example of an American barley wine.

2012 vintage pours a deep amber color with a fine white head that recedes quickly with no retention. Aroma is of sweet caramels, roasted malts, honey. Rich malty flavor that mixes well with the intense bitterness. Really like this beer with a few years age to it would love to have another in 2 years guarantee it would be even better ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2012 Vintage. Pours a cloudy copper /dark amber. Very little head retention. Aroma on this beer is pretty profound. Smells of sweet malts, caramel, funky cheese, honey assorted berry fruits,, and a little bit boozy. Taste is pretty big. Notes of honey, caramel, candy sugar, roasted chocolate, cocoa nibs, pine hop notes, a slight nuttiness, and a little booze on the end. Very enjoyable. Very smooth on the palate. Very drinkable for an 11%-er could be really dangerous.

2010 vintage on tap. Gorgeous ruby amber color with some fine off white head. Nose is stupidly grainy, smells like freshly milled malts. Some toast, caramel, honey, red berries. Flavor is sweet caramel, toffee, honey, grainy, red berries, some pine bitterness on the finish. This is crazy good.

4yr old bottle, 2010 early release. Pours a reddish copper color with a defined foam head that dissipates quickly to leave a soft ring of foam that hugged my glass. The aroma is rich of malts with sweet carmel malts dominating my nose. I also picked up on a weak old hop scent, booze, sugar, and possibly a weak fruit additive. In tasting I picked on a malts, toffee like flavor, sugar sweetener, and a medium to high level of booze. The finish was similar in the initial taste but it had a mild but kind lingering bitterness. Overall it was a damn good brew and age has been good to this bottle.

2012 Release Wonderful malty caramel and fruit aroma. Taste is big and intense caramely malt. Fruit, raisins, a little coffee. Noticeable bitterness in the finish but it works with the sweetness. Excellent!

From the Great New Zealand Beer Festival, this was an excellent beer to end my tasting enterprises before I completely lost my organoleptic faculties. It was just as barley wine should be with a ruby-mahogany body and white head, deep lustrous copper beech, cherry and leathery aromas. A sweet body with excellent warmth and silky smoothness with a surprising elegant addition of woody bitterness. A long finish and a happy warmth left behind. I love barley wine and this is an excellent exemplar.

Light orange color with big ivory head. Citrus and malt aroma . Nice lacing. Another Stone over the Top beer. Alcohol is the firstthing that hits the palate. This stuff will kick your ass. Sour and sweet and bitter. I thought the alcohol taste was a bit much.

This is the good stuff! Potent but extremely drinkable. Gorgeous appearance with a small creamy head, amber/ruby body, sweet fruit and cidery aroma, malt and hops kick in on the taste. Lots of warming action on the way down.
