Aroma: very powerful, fruity, grape-like. Fresh, majestic hops, heavy malt, figs, prunes, cinnamon, caramelized sugar. The sweet, deep malty profile is very balanced up the fresh hops, reeking of lemon, grape and leaves. Very, very nice indeed.
Flavour: huge! Sweetness hits you, and a sledgehammer of bitterness, not half a second later. I can taste wild raspberries, banana, licorice-like malt, great juicy hops. Very big-bodied, slightly acrid and noble. The aftertaste is very sweet, but again it is balanced up by the good amount of hops. Pears and cognac can also be sensed in the aftertaste. To be quite honest, the sweetness makes it almost too big. I think I would prefered it a tad bit drier.
Appearance: slightly dim apricot with the style-typical yellowish head. The head diminshes rahter quickly, leaving a thin foam-film that tells of the sweetness and cloys to the glass.
Palate: oily, fluffy, big. Madeira-like. Very nice sparkling quality. Runs off the tongue like oily, sweet satin.

Keg at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, London. A hazy amber/brown coloured pour with a thin off white head on top. Sweet, malty, caramel aroma. Tastes of caramel, slightly sweet, malty, slight bitterness, slightly boozy.

Sweet, intense caramel aroma, spices, fruits, hopps all together makes nice ballance. Oily, sticky mouthfeel, nice carbonation level. Too sweet for my time, but I liked the quality of this brew.

Huge caramel on nose, same caramel in taste with surprisingly intense piney hop kick, intense maltiness in background but doesnt cover too pushy hops, bit bready, dried fruits. Hop syrup in two words. Well.. its interesting and enjoyable brew, but feels bit unbalanced for me as bitterness overcomes sweetness way too much

65 cl bottle @ home (2010 vintage). Pours clear reddish amber with an off-white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma and flavour are caramel, dried fruits, hops, and alcohol - with a slightly bitter finish.

Light aroma of fruit. The taste has a lot more fruity flavor and heavy bitter taste. Heavy bitterness that fills the mouth forever. The heavy bitterness does not really fit me but definitely worth drinking. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Right off the bad this beer pours a gorgeous dark copper color with a thick, dense khaki head. Loads of lacing after every sip. Aroma is very much full of earthy and grapefruit hop, has a rich malt profile, and fairly strong booze. Flavor changes after the initial shock. At first it is very intensely bitter and strong alcohol. Then it turns to a great balance between intense bitterness from the hops and a heavy malt presentation. A little raisiny, a little fruity, mostly just too intense to really drscribe, in a good way. This one has me flabbergasted. Very great beer.

2012 release bottle, ALEhouse, Riga
Poured dark ambery or brownish, quite clear with beige small but thick and long lasting thin layer top. Leaving slowly lasing, stripe after stripe, deep bubbly visual texture,hence- above average carbonation. Aroma- hmm, so intense and pleasant, rich and long lasting- sweet caramel and biscuit malty, a bit berries-candies alike, hints of nuts, toasted malts and quite yeasty seemed to me too. Suplemented richfull by hops but unfortunately I couldn’t figure out what kind of, cause it is so richfull of aromas. Taste- massively sweet and hoppy, can’t say that it was too bitter but maybe it’s just perfectly balanced out by sweet flavors. Aftertaste is spruce, resiny alike hoppy, long lasting, light to medium dry finishing. Medium to full body, thick, stewy, pulpy texture, for BW it was surprisingly carbonated, not too much, just to fizz on your tongue, astringent mouthfeel. Indeed beer to try. will compare with 2013 classic release.

Poured from a bomber into a Stone Brewery Snifter a dark amber with a tan head. Aroma is sweet caramelized pine needles. Flavor is sugared hops malty biting-deliciously balanced on the palate . LOVE this American style barleywine. Have past 4 years laying down. One day will have an epic vertical celebration.

Keg at Brewdog, at 11%. Dark orange, hazy, decent foamy white head. Aroma is strong sweet caramel, rose and other floral notes, pine, alcohol. Body is medium, rich, foamy, low carbonation. Taste is sweet toffee apple. Very sweet - one dimensionally so - but not to the extent that it becomes unbearable. Piney hop is almost obscured by the sweetness. Alcohol is well hidden. Pretty good actually.
