3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma: very powerful, fruity, grape-like. Fresh, majestic hops, heavy malt, figs, prunes, cinnamon, caramelized sugar. The sweet, deep malty profile is very balanced up the fresh hops, reeking of lemon, grape and leaves. Very, very nice indeed.
Flavour: huge! Sweetness hits you, and a sledgehammer of bitterness, not half a second later. I can taste wild raspberries, banana, licorice-like malt, great juicy hops. Very big-bodied, slightly acrid and noble. The aftertaste is very sweet, but again it is balanced up by the good amount of hops. Pears and cognac can also be sensed in the aftertaste. To be quite honest, the sweetness makes it almost too big. I think I would prefered it a tad bit drier.
Appearance: slightly dim apricot with the style-typical yellowish head. The head diminshes rahter quickly, leaving a thin foam-film that tells of the sweetness and cloys to the glass.
Palate: oily, fluffy, big. Madeira-like. Very nice sparkling quality. Runs off the tongue like oily, sweet satin.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
650mL bottle. Vintage 2013
Nice looking hazy orange-copper body, holds a small creamy beige head.
Aroma is punchy, intense - lots of pine/cedar, resiny, leafy, citrus rind hops, rich caramel & biscuity malts.
Smoooth body, plenty of body without being overtly huge for is strength, subdued creamy carbonation.
Resiny hops continue on the body - lots of pine & bitter citrus, counterbalanced with copious quantities of burnt caramel, toast & biscuit malt. Bitterness is all conquering, as you’d expect from a big Stone beer, finish is very long.
Almost predictable - knew it was going to be delciously aggressive, and it didn’t disappoint.

Huge beer. Get brandy, vanilla, some sweet tropical fruit. Sweet malt up front and get the boozy heat on the back. A sipper for sure.

A quite nice barley wine overall. Pours a beautiful bright cloudy orange with a thick tan head. Smells amazing, orange creme, maple syrup, cinnamon and vanilla. Taste is not as malty as the smell suggests, with lots of orange and lemon, as well as some maple syrup, a hint of vanilla, and a bit of hoppiness in the finish. Well-balanced. Had in the bottle.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Celebrating my RB rating #1,000 during a hot and humid weekend afternoon!
651 ml bomber “2014 Vintage” at abv 11.6% bought at Q Club in SoHo, Central.
Serving temperature: at 10°C (less than 13°C as suggested on the bottle)
Looks: Cloudy hazy ruby brown colour with a clust of yeast sediments One finger head and light beige foam which lasts for 1 minute; Good sticky lacing and notable very smallish carbonation.
Aroma: Very fragrant rich ale malt, with strong Port wines, light brandy, strong wood barrels , alcohol, cherry, red fruits, pine, strong resin, biscuits, strong yeast, light lemon and light grass.
Taste: Wow! A blistering strong taste of rich ale malt, with brandy, strong liquor-like alcohol, wood barrel, very thick molasses, liquored cherry, pine, strong resin, earth, strong yeast, lemon, strong bitter hops and sharp grass.
Body: Full body. Very rich and oily oozy palate.
Mouth Feel: Insanely rich Ale maltyness in a strong body and very slick. Taste a lot like Bush de Ambrée but without the syrupy palate. The brandy-like liquor is strong, which raise up the cherry and red fruits with strong liquor influence. Strong pine and oozy resin. Looks like Chinook and Columbus at work here! Very yeasty and lemony hoppy to round. Actually the bitter hops and liquor never really ends without the dreaded sugar. Excellent!
Hoppiness: IIPA-like: Strong wood, strong pine, strong resin, light lemon and grass in nose. Woody barrels, earth, pine, strong ooze, lemon and strong grass in taste. Bitterness is strong but subtle. Come in well in the end for a lasting, high astringent malty-bitter finish.
After Taste: Fairly dry. Rich, brandy-like and pleasantly hoppy to mouth.
Comments: Knowing that the hops varies each year, and mines are dominated by IIPA-like Chinook and Columbus, and perhaps Northern Brewer - very piney, oozy, and very woody, almost barrel-ish. Its taste is on par with any heavyweight barley wines or BSAs for that nice, brandy-like nose and taste, complemented by strong, if a bit straight-forward, IIPA-ish hoppiness. Liquor disgusted as beer? I always love that idea and this one serves as a fine example. Glad I choose thios one for my rating #. 1,000 ! Cheers!

26th May 2015: part of a four glass flight at the Stone Oceanside outlet. Lovely sweet and tasty brew (2014 brew I believe). Red hue to the brown body, off-white topping. Rich and malty from the start, mild hop notes come later, but this is mostly sweet malts and alcohol.

Nice deep red in my tulip glass, small beige head. Toffee malt aromas, with piney hops, earthy yeast. The taste, as expected, is very much in line with the very hoppy american style barley wines, particularly like the Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. Huge caramel and toffee malt backbone, big whack of grassy hops, really full and creamy body. Exactly what one would expect of a barley wine by Stone - big and brash but high quality.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Too sweet of a brew for my tastes. Barleywine is expected to be sweet, but Stone attempted to masque the alcohol too much.
