2010 Vintage A - Pours a hazy glowing burnt orange color. A bubbly off-white head melts into wispy islands. S - Rich caramelized brown sugar, fresh cut pine wood, grapefruit, pineapple, cinnamon, strawberries. Notes of oak comes out as it warms. T - Warm and spicy up front before blankets of malt brings in sweet toasted toffee, and rich caramel. The grapefruit rind hops start invading the castle and turn from citrus to pine resin on the finish diminishing any and all sweetness from the malt. The aftertaste is dry with flavors of malt, herbs, and bittering hops. M - Full bodied with high carbonation. I had high hopes for this beer and it didn’t let me down. The nose is heavenly. The different stages of this beer from start to finish is like a Willy Wonka beer. With an 11.10ABV the alcohol shows up a bit, but is not off-putting. It’s hidden well. An excellent and very complex Barleywine. Serving type: bottle 10-09-2010

2015, poured into Snifter. Aromas of toffee and burnt sugar. Sweet, boozy, with a slightly burnt, roasty aftertaste. Slightly tan head that lingers.

Malty sweet aroma with a moderate hop aroma with notes of flowers and citrus. Appearance is a cloudy dark orange with a small white head. Sweet maltiness with a high amount of hop bitterness. Bitterness lingers on the end. Mouthfeel is full with medium carbonation. Overall, the malt aroma and flavor is malty, but flat. Tastes one dimensional. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2013 bomber poured into snifter. Nice caramel body with a light, off white head. Smells sweet of malt and caramel. Nice on the tongue with sweetness of the caramel, which is almost immediately checked by the tartness of hops and the burn of alcohol. Mouth left with the sweet body dominated by the bitterness of hops and the alcohol sting. Quite surprised because this is an older bottle. Still a fine barleywine at that.

2010 vintage at Escondido. Pours opaque murky brown with a fizzy off white head. Tastes smooth, rich, malty, hoppy, boozy, and like raisin. Light/medium body and low carbonation. Smells like rich malt, hops, booze, caramel and light wood.

On tap at MacGregor’s with Bob and JB. Caramel malt, dark fruit and hops in the aroma. Pours copper colored with small of off-white head and great lacing. Sweet caramel and toffee malt with some dark fruit to start. Finishes dry and clean with a bitter, hoppy finish. Decent barley wine.

On tap at Stone Bistro. One of the best barley wines out there, not too bitter with a complex earthiness and fruitiness. Very drinkable for such a high abv. The hops do not overwhelm the complex, fruity esters of the malt.

Bottled, 2015 vintage. Pours a beautiful ruby color with a khaki-colored head. Aroma is hop forward, with citrus (grapefruit) notes, and prominent cherry and dark fruits to compliment. Caramel malty aroma noticeable. Flavor is sweet cherry, raisin, caramel, vanilla, tiny big of fig. Hops, lemon, grapefruit are subtle. Bitter finish.

W/ JJ tasting. I'm an infant in the Barley Wine world. This smells like malt and booze. Tastes like malt and booze. It has a light carbonation and compared to previous encounters w/ BWs, quite drinkable.
