A beautiful bold barley wine. Massive malt and hop notes. Silver Medal winner at the 2000 Great American Beer Festival in the Barley Wine category. Copper colored barley wine with a little foam. Aroma of malt and alcohol. Sweet and dry hop taste, too strong in alcohol.

Amber clear. Tan head. Powerful but has a bit if mellow to it. 2011version. This beer makes me wish I had a cigar. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle - Pours amber with a ring of white head. Nose is real malty and sweet, with caramel with light yeast. Not much hops left in this one. Taste is the same--sweet and malty, with caramel and yeast notes and a bit of oakiness on the finish. A touch of hops left on this one. Thick and slick, with lots of warming booze. Would like to try this one fresh when it still had hops.

Solid b wine I guess... Offers balance between the hoppier American style bwine and more traditional ones. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2013 vintage. Nearly a half inch of sediment on the bottom. Nose was surprisingly light for such a beefy beer. Color is an interesting cloudy copper. Taste is heavy with malt and hop, and plenty of alcohol. Quite sweet up front with a typically bitter Stone finish. Interesting mix for sure. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Gold-amber color, little to no head. Sweet, non fruit aroma. Thicker, light syrup mouth feel, but not chewey. Slight alcohol flavor, but balanced well with malt. Low to medium carbonation. Overall, good, but not my favorite barley wine.

Pours out an amber color with basically no head. It has a very strong aroma of alcohol. The taste is somewhat bitter with an overwhelming amount of alcohol taste. I’d reccoment Old Horizontal instead, much better barley wine.

One of my bottles at RBSG. Not much interest. Could have been aged a little longer. Slightly haze amber pour with a short off white head. Lots of hop but shorter than I would have expected. Tastes more like a IIPA than a barleywine. Some cottoncandy, grapefruit. Pepper and heartburn. Hot. Decent but perhaps fruit and sweetness could have been developed more in time. Look forward to the next sample.
