2012 bottle. Stone manages to make a very nice barley wine by ensuring the hops balance out the sweetness resulting in a beer that is not cloying and balanced in alcoholic character. Of course it has that sweet syrup barley wine aroma that practically defines the style. It pours a murky coppy with a fine head that leaves sheets of lacing. There are notes of caramel, alcohol, oak and over-ripe fruit. The body is similiar to that of a triple, being medium in feel but numbing with alcohol. Overall I think that Stone has epitomized barley wine with this brew. Good job Stone.

Dark fruits and pine tar aroma. Pours thick with frothy head. Pronounced malts and some fruity esters with a great hop presence. Huge beer. Too be expected from stone!

Pours a dark amber with tan head. Dissipates quickly.Very nice aroma of molasses, figs, and cherry. Flavor is sweet, Dark fruits. resinous, alcohol is pronounced. oily texture. sticky on the lips. astringent dry finish. Good but this doesn’t live up to the ratings hype for me personally. Seems boozier than it actually is.

660ml bottle (Alko, Arkadia) - 2012 release, drunk 2015-03
Beautiful rich malty barley wine aroma, nice bitter hopping to that too. Hazy orange, odd, it should have settled for ever. Massively soapy taste. Bitterness very resiny. Drinkability remarkable for a 12% beer, no heat or even warmth. But it’s not too sweet and sticky either to cover it. Sure, it’s chewy with toffee and caramel, but that just fits with the classic BW feel. Shame about the soapiness, othewise this would have been great.

22 oz. bottle. 2014 vintage. Color is slightly hazy Amber with thin lasting head in a snifter. Aroma is mild dark fruit and caramel dominated by pine hops and light booze.

Medium body possessing a nice lively carbonation level. The flavor is exactly as the aroma with a moderate level of bitterness that lingers after the sip. A layer of earthy resin. The booze is still a tad to noticeable even after a year of sitting. Dry texture with a warming sensation after the swallow. All-in-all still a nice drink.
