3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hey a stone beer that doesnt kick you in the balls. That sucks. But let me tell you in comparison to another less hoppy beer I will take this any day. For example, compare it to the 3 floyds mild ale (sure its not the same but its kinda close). the hops is there in both but here at least you know that you are still drinking something with hops in it. one day I would like to compare it to the 3F pale ale, if I can get my hands on it.

Stone even does the usual well. A pale ale. Yet quite good. Nice amber body with off-white head. No gimmicks and gadgets. Just a straight out pale ale. Hoppy/grapefruit aroma blended with malty tones. Medium and rewarding body that felt good going down. Nice blend of malt and hops in the taste. Crisp and clean and refreshing. Great with food and on a hot summer day.

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2004 Pours light orange depending on what light you look through. Malty aroma believe it or not with a little fruit. Malty flavor as well with some light hop bitterness in the finish. A nice, quaffable beer and what for me is a big departure as far as my Stone experience goes.

Head: good for the style, nice lacing. Not too big. Aroma: citrusy Cascade hops, fresh malt. Also appropriate for style. Color: a bit too much protein clouds the brew for this style, but a nice color. Flavor: not to hoppy for a pale ale, which is nice for a Malthead like me. Too many West Coast pale ales are WAY overhopped in my opinion. This is not one of them. Very nice balance between hops and malt, particularly when the beer heats up somewhat. Nice dry finish. A great session beer on a hot day without air conditioning. Throw out your adjunct-laden Bud/Miller/Michelob swill and switch to this for the game.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Vendome Liquor, North Hollywood, Los Angeles. Pours a glowing orange marmalde colour, with a contrasting white head. Smells rather like an aromatic shrubbery. Bristling, fresh taste. Dry, rather than sweet, but not harsh. Light and refreshing and quick and clean across the palate. Has the taste and is concise.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2004 bottle. Orange-amber-yellow with some very light reds. Decent off-white head, quite foamy, lots of lacing. Clear. Smells very dry of hops, paper, biscuits, white bread. Flavor is hugely dry, not overly bitter, but just so dry you wonder where the malt is. Definitely strong for the style, though I really like that. Flavor is certainly crisp and clean, I just can’t seem to get used to the huge dryness of the malt and hops.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark amber color out of the glass. Nice creamy head. Hops dominate the aroma, but not too much. Very well balanced. Not quite like Sierra Nevada Harvest, but still pretty decent. Light malt lingers in the background. Crisp as well. Bought this 6-pack at Beverages and More in San Diego.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Burnt amber coloured with a creamy head. Aroma is cascade and malt. This beer is so well balanced it's a struggle to pull out individual flavours. As far as american pale ales go it's Sierra, Alpha and Stone.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2004 I had this right after the Stone IPA and the first thing I noticed was the darker pour and smaller head. Not nearly as hoppy as I like, but still a very nice flavor which is very well balanced if not ideal for a pale ale. Kudos to Stone for another great brew.
