"familiar stone hop bite" with a cleaner, watery complement that aids a simple idea. not herbal, not belgian-like, just clean micro fun. nice. no crazy grapefruit flavor, caramel festival, etc... it’s good, clean and simple. i wish this is available everywhere, it’d be my pale ale. / UPDATE from San Diego trip last weekend: i bought a 6r, and even on tap, there seemed to be this tap water quality that i didn’t like, and it was a bit like granite. meh. downrated.

That familiar Stone hop bite is there right at the beginning, but it smooths out to a nice drinkable brew. Tastes like a tame Arrogant Bastard.

UPDATED: FEB 19, 2004 I thought as far as the looks for my ideal beer this hit it right on. The bitterness was present during the entire beer, hops, and malt are definatly present, a pretty good beer.

The Stone Pale Ale poured a slightly cloudy, copper-orange with a medium off-white head that quickly went to a lacing that stuck to the glass on the way down. It had a faint grassy, hoppy smell. The initial taste was some bitterness with a touch of citrus. It had a pretty strong bitter finish that mellowed as I drank it (the draft version was also mellower and smoother). Overall, this was a fine specimen of a pale ale, which is not my favorite style.

A nice, slightly hazy, copper color. Pours with a dense white head. Not as aromatic as I was hoping. There is a nice bitterness up front, as I take my first sip, it is accompanied by some biscuit - malty notes. There seems to be a lot of complexity missing here. A straight forward pale ale with not real defining characteristics. It is not balanced enough to work on a subtle level. It is certainly bitter, fairly clean flavors (light fruit, malt and some hoppy flavor contributions). Seems to be missing that certain Stone 'pizzazz'. Overall a decent beer, but I was hoping for something with a bit more definition. I need to see if I can get a known fresh bottle of this, to see if perhaps this is just past it's prime.

Deep crimson amber color with a nice layer of puffy head and a small skim of lacing. The aroma is lightly hoppy with a sweet, almost caramel mix with an almost cinnamon nose. Flavor is perfectly balanced with this mainstream stone offering. This is a great beer which could be the "redefined" SNPA of past hoppy lore.

Pours a very clear mahogany, with a nice white head of small bubbles, and some pretty good lacing. Wow, the aroma is nicely balanced with hops and malt. Very mellow in both aspects. Big flavors of malt and aroma. Both bombard the senses, but it is in a pleasing way. Very smooth palate and a nice, bitter finish. Definately a damn fine pale ale

UPDATED: MAY 7, 2008 The bright amber body is topped by a medium thick head with lots of lacing hugging the glass. The aroma is slightly sweet and rather well balanced leaning towards a citrusy hoppiness. The flavor is slighlty sweet yet bitter and hoppy with slight citrus notes and a touch of maltiness. The finish is bitter, piney and hoppy. Medium bodied and tingly from the carbonation.

Lightly earthy, juicy hop aroma, some pine and citrus, with a complimentary toasty, caramel maltiness. Lightly hazy medium amber color, with a fine, cobwebbed head and spidery lace. Malty, lightly sweet beginning, some gentle dark honeyish sweetness and toastiness, quickly becoming floral and hoppy, with a lightly bitter close. Light-medium acidity, with an effervescent palate and medium body. Very refreshing and hop-accented, but mellow in character. Very tasty. Must be included when discussing the best American Pales. This is one of my favorite session brews, by far. Clean, hoppy, and somewhat mildly sweet in aroma. Nice tan head and mild lacing. Great clear copper red colors with nice carbonation. Flavor is smooth, crisp and very well balanced with a nice pine dry finish.
