Full red amber; foresty nose w/ some candyish notes. Earthy, chewy character with notes of cocoa and wisps of lemony hops overlaying a solid malt footing.

Aroma is sweet, the taste is impressive and lasts throughout the entire bottle, leaves a good aftertaste. Definitely desirable and good for lunch or dinner.
RERATE 01/03/03: Perhaps a bit giddy on my last rating...my first taste in many months. Good malty sweetness to be found everywhere...a caramel malt base provides for a sweet smell and a good thorough taste...a little light on appearance from the tap however...thinning head and mild carbonation. Still an excellent delicacy from Stone.

Nose gives a preview of hops and malt lying ahead, and nothing else. Nice amber hue and very little head on top. It is a very nice balance of hops and malt for a pale ale. The hops jump all over your palate, then the malt pushes them out of the way for a very well rounded ale.

It is very rare that I can sum up a beer
with one word, but in the case of this fine brew,
one word comes to mind: BALANCE.
The malty sweetness and the hoppy bitterness
coexist in a perfect symetry. Walks a wonderful
line between hops and malt. Wonderful.

Maybe I should try again. I didnít get this beer at all. Just kind of run of the mill good quality pale ale; not enough hops for me, and too much malt.
