| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 24, 2008 Nice reddish/copper puor with a thin white head. Aroma is of flowery hops and some citrus. Medium-bodied with a nice mouthfeel. Malt is pretty evident up front, earthy and bready. IBU’s seem about right for an APA. Pine/citrus/flower with some spice on the back end. Pretty good. In short: A smooth and round nourishing full bodied Pale Ale with spicy notes. Very good.
How: Bottle (many times). This rating for a very fresh 12oz consumed a few days after purchase
The look: Clear amber body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nice juicy caramelized malt backbone. The body is far from thin, this is a well malted beer yet the beer feels light. Perfect balance with spicier than usual hops. Citrus with peppery notes and smooth round caramel in the finish. Not the most refreshing example of the style but this one is tastier than the average Pale Ale while still being highly drinkable. Very good. Heavier than usual for the style but really what does it means to be heavier than usual when you are a Pale Ale? That’s like being 110 pounds when you’re a top model. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 23, 2008 Amber hue, much darker than you’d expect from an american pale. Fairly typical mouthfeel with an even balance between sweet and bitter tastes. Very good for the style, another winner from Stone. tarheels86 (729), Washington DC, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 23, 2008 Pours very dark for pale ale: a medium amber with medium to low carbonation and nice fluffy, off-white head that settles down quickly. Lacing is fairly good. Palate is medium. Nose is flowers, grapefruit, and sweet malt. Taste is similar with a nice hoppy kick. Slightly creamy but still light. Aftertaste is earthy, hoppy, and bitter and lasts for quite awhile. Reminds me a lot of Anchor Steam. oreogobbler (217), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 23, 2008 Pours a dark golden orangeish amber, thick frothy head, completely transparent, with delicate carbonation.
Strong citrus aroma. Orange, pineapple, grapefruit, and hops.
Strong full body flavor. Piny hops upfront, followed by a wonderful citrus bitter that just cotes your entire palate, then it mellows into a nice lemon/orange juice finish.
Great mouth feel, very full and flavorful, interesting and satisfying, crisp and clean.
