3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Darker orange red hue with a slight burnt color. Earthy aroma with nice caramel toasty notes. Great white lacing. Not too bitter on the finish but nice floral hops

2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
09.10.2013, 0,35l bottle (best before 01.02.2012) sampled @ BBGTC tasting:
Small creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet, kind of barleywine-ish, caramel malts, sap, honey, leafs, grass, sugar. Taste is harsh grassy, caramel malts, cardboard, harsh hay, bark, grass, honey. Medium bitterness, dry harsh mouthfeel. Horrible, really need to rerate this at some point.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
I poured a 12oz bottle into a mason jar. It had an "Enjoy by" date of 10/17/13 and cost $3.45 ($0.29 per ounce).
Appearance: Hazy dark copper hue. Pours to an average sized, off-white, sudsy head which retains and laces well.
Smell: Mild aroma of earthy hops and some amber malt.
Taste: Stone Pale Ale is a beer Iíve wanted to review for a long time, but havenít been able to since every bottle in my beer store is always way past its freshness window every time I check. I was shocked when I found one that was still within the "enjoy by" date, though Iím pretty sure the reason I find this beer underwhelming is due to the fact itís still pretty old by San Diego standards and probably wasnít handled well before I got a hold of it. The hops are faded, the malt is astringent and it just doesnít taste like a pale ale. Shame.
This beer actually reminds me of an extract homebrew Iíve made (several of them, actually). It has a mild twangy astringency, not unlike scorched caramel or toffee but without the sugar. An earthy, rustic flavor of tree bark and pine needles, but without the actual hop character. There is some bitterness on the finish, but itís mild, which is understandable considering this is just a pale ale after all. Still, thereís not a lot of flavor here to enjoy and what is here Iím not crazy about. It reminds me of a sorghum-based brew with its twangy character. Itís not horrible, but itís just not good. If I can get it fresh perhaps Iíll re-review it, but as of now itís a bummer.
Drinkability: While the taste to Stone Pale Ale leaves much to be desired, the delivery does not. The mouthfeel is light, crisp, wet and actually a bit refreshing for a moment. It does leave a slightly bitter aftertaste, but itís easily overlooked. For 5.4% ABV it seems to be lacking a bit in body as this drinks and feels like something more sessionable. At $3.45 a bottle, I wouldnít recommend sessioning this.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours dark amber with a thin white head. Mild caramel bready aroma. Taste is again caramel sweetness. Sweetness is nicely balanced out by hop bitterness that isnít too overwhelming. This is a very well balanced and smooth beer. Extremely high drink-ability. I would recommend this beer for getting your friends into craft beer (although I like to use Arrogant Bastard for the lulz). I could drink this beer every day. Awesome.

Wonderful American pale ale, quite creamy but well balanced body and really nice hoppiness in the end.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Typical big weighty Stone house character but not humungous or grotesque. /Off white head which thins in time. Biggish potent nose. Nice rounded full taste/feel which is full and robust. Middling length at best. Reasonable but could do with more development. Some simple lacing. Decent to good.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This beer was a bit odd. I had high hopes going into it. I was severely let down. I canít quite place what it was, but it was not good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A nice ipa, over to the caramel and malt side of the ipa rather than the floral and tropical. Like a slimmed down ruination. NicE.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Total Wine Summerlin, Las Vegas. Clear orange pour, foamy white head. Aroma of floral hops, resin and pine. Flavor is very smooth fruity hops. Light and very drinkable but still full of hops.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Drank from the bottle. Reddish color. Nose is caramel, bread, floral. Flavor is caramel, floral hops. Mellow and sort of ho-hum for a Stone beer.
