Color is a clear amber burnt orange with a fluffy beige head. Firmly bitter but a great malt profile. Toasty and a little cracker. Hop flavor in the end and a clean dry finish. Not too carbonated and very easy drinking. A great example of the style. hoppopotamus (182), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 6, 2008 A nice looking copper red beer with a small head. The aroma is a mild hoppiness, with floral and spicy notes. The flavor is mostly malt with a bit of hop bitterness. A bit thin in the mouthfeel. Not offensive in any way, but not intense in any way. I’m a much bigger fan of the IPA, ruination, or arrogant/double bastard. dolemite77 (184), Maryville, Tennessee, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 4, 2008 I’m partial to Stone beers... but this one is by far my favorite pale ale. Probably more of an IPA for most brewers, but stone has a helluva balanced beer with this one. Aroma is mild pine, with some flowery notes. Flavor is a strong malt backbone, and a pure taste of cascade hops. I love Sierra Nevada Pale, and this one is almost like SN, but they did it one better. Oh... pours a beautiful amber- head is disappointingly short lived, but oh well... hard to find for me for some reason, but a winner if you are looking for something with a little less kick than an IPA. biznizness (934), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA

In all three cases, it’s still my favorite pale ale. I’m not much of a pale ale fan in general, but I love Stone’s smoothness and the not-to-strong citrus streak running through it. This is the pale ale I turn to when I’m just not up for Stone’s IPA. Egon (393), Gothenburg, Sweden
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 28, 2008 Bottle. Red copper with white head. Nice mix of malt and hops, some rubber. Citrus. A bit metallic. Medium body. Smooth, creamy mouth feel. Quite short after taste. mattmc1973 (302), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 26, 2008 12 oz bottle, pours deep amber with beige foamy head, which mostly dissipated and left mild lacing. Aroma of malt and hops, similar to Arrogant Bastard, but milder. Taste of bitter hops, mouthfeel a bit watery, but smooth. Is a decent pale ale, but not as great as I would have expected, since I’m a fan of Arrogant Bastard/Double Bastard. Just OK.
