Pours a caramel brown with an off-white head. Nose is lots of caramel and malt with noticeable citrus and pine hops. Flavor has a solid malt backbone with all manner of hops. Malt and hops in great proportion. Very enjoyable and sessionable pale ale. jjuf1853 (471), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA

Good amount of richness amd flavor with a nice hop finish. beernovice39 (256), South Carolina, USA

This beer is balanced in flavor.....I am a hop lover and this is not as intense on hops as other Stone brews....but it is very drinkable. IndianaRed (1553), Boise, Idaho, USA

Loght malty aro.a a bit of cardboardand wet grocery bags. Surprisinggly little of the west coast hops I expected. Woody light bitter malt flavor. Light pallettte that finishes quick. A bit dissapointing. trevor211 (504), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 15, 2009 Why I haven’t had this one before is beyond me. Seems like an instant classic at first sip. Pours dark for a pale - copper/bronze, with a smallish off-white head. Lots of caramel malts balancing out a moderate amount of extremely resinous hops. Mouthfeel is just right - heavy but clean. It does, however, have a slightly metallic note on the finish that I wasn’t a fan of. Great otherwise, though - wonderful example of a classic pale. deyholla (520), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 14, 2009 Bottle. Pours amber with a red hue and a near white head. Aroma is a nice mix of hops and malts, the malts are a bit more present. Flavor has pine notes with an undertone of malts, leading to an undertone of grainy notes. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2009 Reddish copper in color. Light floral hop character on the nose especially when compared to its evil big brothers. Nice malty richness often not found in many pale ales. Smooth with a nice carbonated spice on the finish. Love this beer. One of my favorite standard pale ales. spkldhenlvr24 (453), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deep reddish copper body with a small white head left with a retaining ring throughout. Relatively mild hoppy, slightly fruity citrus aroma. Very smooth mouthfeel. Initial grapefruit flavor but with more caramel malts than anything. Really nice APA. I was expecting some more hops out of this, especially coming from Stone. None-the less very creamy flavorful beer.
