RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Mar 17, 2008 Pours translucent amber with a slight frothy head. Aroma of sweet malts (toffee and caramel) with notes of pine and citrus. Not the huge offering I’ve come to expect from Stone, it tastes like Arrogant Bastard ratcheted down about 10 notches. epf33 (222), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Mar 16, 2008 Updated: Dec 7, 2008i love the way they talk about the beer on the bottles, so arrogant and they think they know what they’re doing and they brag so much about how amazing their beer is...
...well yea, it really IS that good, and they deserve to be arrogant HughConway (364), Alabama, USA Mar 15, 2008 Bottle. Nice copper color, nice long lasting white head. Nice hop aroma (not too hoppy). Slightly sweet foretaste with hops following. Nice light body. Nice pale ale. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA Mar 14, 2008 Bottle. Small ivory head that mostly diminished, spotty amounts of lacing, hazy, visible carbonation, and a orange golden hue. Nose was caramel malt, hoppy, pine, citrus, and lightly sweet. Ditto for the flavor with some light bitterness and a dry finish. Fairly smooth, dry mouthfeel and medium in body. Quaffable APA, well balanced, but not one of my favorite beers from Stone as IMO it needs more body. jeffwilliams11 (310), hooterville, Michigan, USA Mar 10, 2008 very mild american pale ale. good malt flavor to balance out the really mellow hop flavor. great amber color with small whitish head. Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA Mar 8, 2008 Surprisingly mellow American Pale Ale with an appetizing aroma and initial taste and the finish is just as refreshing and pleasant.
Excellent beer Acknud (770), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Mar 4, 2008 It would have been good but the taste got it. It started strong but then finished with a lingering metallic finish. blazingspiral (39), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Feb 28, 2008 Countless times I have overlooked this brew in favor of Stone’s IPA. Today, however, I felt drawn toward it, perhaps because the Wild Oats store was sold out of Stone IPA, perhaps because my palate has been assaulted by big IIPAs and barleywines lately and needed a little break. Anyway, the best by date on this pale ale was sometime in April, more than a month in the future, so I made my purchase with confidence. The pour revealed a reddish amber liquid with lively carbonation. I enjoyed the subtle aroma, which included hints of fruity sweetness -- more apple than citrus -- and hinted at a strong malt character. The first sip surprised me with a powerful blast of hop bitterness. Definitely a fresh bottle. With continued drinking, this bitterness settled down and achieved a very nice balance with the rest of the flavors. This is not a strong ale, but its texture never feels watery or weak. You could drink a few of these in a row and the flavors would remain interesting without becoming overwhelming. Nice APA.
