Taverner (827), San Ramon, California, USA Feb 1, 2008 Decent, mellow pale ale. Not as bitter as Sierra Nevada’s - but a lot more aromatic. The first smell is grassy with almost a lager smell. It’s what I would identify as the perfect session beer - one you can drink a lot of. And at 5.4%, you have a bit more latitude. Pours clear amber with 1 finger of white head, which recedes to a soapy film. There is a nice hoppy bite in the finish of this beer, but its not overpowering. forbeer (1), USA does not count Jan 27, 2008 When I want a Pale Ale this is what I get. A fine example of style. Peronally I would like to see a little more hops in the recipie possible some Simcoe. ratman197 (3141), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jan 27, 2008 Bottle poured a clear copper with a small diminishing amber head. Aromas of carmel, earthiness, light pine and light orange. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, earthiness and light citrus with a smooth moderatly bitter finish. ReademNwheat (174), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 21, 2008 From a bottle. Pours an amber color with a small white head. Aroma is pretty hoppy, notes of pine and citrus are most evident. Tastes is a nice blend of sweet malts and bitter hops, with some cirus hops showing through. Decent sessionable brew from stone. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Jan 18, 2008 Amber with a wispy and lacy beige head. malty and sweet aroma with subtle but nice hops. Pretty even and clean flavor with caramel and fruitiness closed by some nice complex hop flavors that blend nicely. The body is a little thin, but makes this a good sessionable beer. It’s an alright beer, but pretty unremarkable among the APAs I’ve had. The flavor profile just reminds me of a castrated and watered down stone IPA. As far as Stone beers go, I think that I’ll stick to the stronger stuff that they do quite well. Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA Jan 17, 2008 Overall, a decent pale ale. A bit too hoppy for the gravity, but still a decent beer. Plenty of hops, plenty of malty flavors. Decent mouthfeel, but a little over hopped for my tastes. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Jan 14, 2008 Bottle courtesy of kmweaver. Pours a lightly hazy copper with a lasting, pitted, beige head that gradually diminishes to a quarter inch creamy cap leaving behind wispy lace. The nose is fruity and floral hops over a caramel/pale malt base; nothing Earth-shattering, but it’s simple and quite nice. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and creamy-soft with a lightly dry, bitter finish; nice. Surprisingly, the malt plays a significant role in this beer. When it first hits the tongue, you get a solid, moderately sweet pale malt front, with a lightly toasty, nutty note, followed by fruity, bitter hops. Very well balanced and supremely drinkable, after a few more sips the hops begin to assert themselves. It’s almost like the spice in Thai food. The first few bites are flavorful, but after a few more you get a residual heat that builds. The hop bitterness in this beer are similar, they gradually "build" as you continue to drink, but they never approach anything like those in Stone’s IPA. I certainly hope the rumors are true about Stone coming to KC soon. This beer will certainly contend for space in my fridge. Thanks for this awesome bonus, Ken! Whelk (124), Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England Jan 14, 2008 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber with an off-white head. Aroma is floral hops with a little bit of biscuity malt. Flavors are floral hops, citrus hops, some Caramel malts as well. Nice, crisp finish.
