Pours a lightly hazy copper with a lasting, pitted, beige head that gradually diminishes to a quarter inch creamy cap leaving behind wispy lace. The nose is fruity and floral hops over a caramel/pale malt base; nothing Earth-shattering, but it’s simple and quite nice. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and creamy-soft with a lightly dry, bitter finish; nice. Surprisingly, the malt plays a significant role in this beer. When it first hits the tongue, you get a solid, moderately sweet pale malt front, with a lightly toasty, nutty note, followed by fruity, bitter hops. Very well balanced and supremely drinkable, after a few more sips the hops begin to assert themselves. It’s almost like the spice in Thai food. The first few bites are flavorful, but after a few more you get a residual heat that builds. The hop bitterness in this beer are similar, they gradually "build" as you continue to drink, but they never approach anything like those in Stone’s IPA. I certainly hope the rumors are true about Stone coming to KC soon. This beer will certainly contend for space in my fridge. Thanks for this awesome bonus, Ken! | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 11, 2008 Bottle. Appearance: Pours a really beautiful hazy orange amber with a long lasting light beige head and good lacing. Aroma: Mosty floral hops, some sweet fruits as well. Palate: Medium, very smooth. Flavor: Floral hops, a hint of caramel malt, an almost peach like fruitiness. Nothing is overpowering here, lots of different tastes mixing really well. Overall: This is an awesome beer. I know it’s the best pale ale I’ve had, can’t imagine one being much better than this. sneagrams3 (1738), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 8, 2008 From bottle. Has a fairly dull aroma, with a bit of mild caramel, nuts, and butter-toffee. Light floral hops that are more of an afterthought. Sweet, fairly clean nose. Subdued, this one. Deep orange-amber, clear, with an off-white foamy lacing head. Medium body with medium carbonation and bit of fizzy tang. Starts fairly sweet, with caramel and a nutty sweet maltiness about it. Light butter-toffee, followed by some mild bitter hops. Mild-medium bitter finish, with a lingering sugary sweetness. Perhaps the bottle is a bit old. Hudspart (371), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 5, 2008 Bottle: Good pale ale, but not great. Very little hop aroma or taste. I guess Stone uses all of their hops in their Ruination. Pours amber with a thick head. Slight aroma and taste of hops and butterscotch. Ill stick with their IPA.
