scrizzz (1250), kirkland, Washington, USA Sep 13, 2007 Updated: May 12, 2008dark for a pale, which is good times, red orange and gold. fluffy full head. lots of pale malt aroma and a hint of oily bitterness. medium bodied, long long long on flavor of cereal with a bite that reminds me of rye. british style hop weight and flavor. solid. mhot55 (99), USA Sep 9, 2007 nice orange color- almost clear, slightly haze. Ample head, good lacing- stayed the whole way down (not that it lasted long). Aroma was nice- slightly floral with some sweet notes. I was expecting a little bitterness punch from the hops, i mean this is a Stone brew. But i was pleasantly suprised that the hops actually took a back seat to the malts here. Tatse was definitely sweet, but not overpowering- there was no sticky feel but it did lend a heavier body, even slightly chewy or bready. Hops seem to add more of the floral notes than bittering aspects. Again, the body was fantastic. Heavy enough to actually feel it without loading you down after having 1 or 2. Even chewy without being sticky, yet still a little crisp. Did I mention this went down real easy. Another great, yet somewhat different, Stone brew. I’m glad I bought a 6-pack boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 9, 2007 Bottle... Poured a foggy, off-ruby color with a white head that disapated quickly. A lot of malt in the aroma. Pretty meaty in flavor from the high malt which is accented nicely by hops. I think this would be a good session ale for myself. oakbluff (298), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Sep 8, 2007 12 ounce bottle courtesy of Viggo. Pours a caramel orange with an offwhite head. Faint hiff of hops in the nose. Taste- caramel malts and cascade hops- grassy and citrus. Very nicely balanced and quite tasty. Not overly hoppy, esp. for Stone. Reminds me somewhat of Alpha King with the doughy malts. Drinkability is very good. One of the better pale ale’s I’ve had. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Sep 7, 2007 Bottle. Nice thick amber. Decent head with a bit of lacing. Nice hoppy aroma with a touch of sweetness. Nice sharp, hoppy bite to it. Not horrible, but not my favorite Pale. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Sep 7, 2007 Murky deep amber color with medium offwhite semi-lasting head. Smell is fairly mild, lightly hopped, and more heavily scented from the caramel sweetness than anything. Definitely a sweeter pale with light, almost blandish hop notes, and a slight burnt caramel bittersweetness. Somewhat rich for a pale, and reminded me much more of an ESB than any pale I’ve had before. Could have again, but I wouldn’t go out of the way for it. Decent beer. MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 7, 2007 Bottle from Canals in Lumberton, NJ. Poured a coppery color a little darker then most pale ales. Brad, Sweet malt and hop aroma. The flavor was much the same with a mild pine finish. I quite enjoyed it. brianprentiss (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 5, 2007 GREAT pale ale, hops smell wonderful, looks amazing, and finishes smooth. near perfect hop/malt balance
