Ambrose (141), East Aurora, New York, USA Jun 19, 2007 Great beer. Tastes good, looks good, smells good. We had nothing in common. maybe thats why I like it so much. But anyway, I was glad I had this. It was deeply intricate. You will fully enjoy this without any quims or quams. Unless ofcourse you want too have quims or quams then by all means. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Jun 18, 2007 Amber pous, small white head. Aroma is not as hoppy as one would think, more on malts. Taste is biscuit malts all the way, I love the crispness of that malt so much. Hops citrusy and floral but more on bitterness and less on the flavor additions. Bitterness is actually pretty low and overall an enjoyable pale ale and just like the IPA it’s a classic example of the style. badlizard (2324), Berkeley, California, USA Jun 17, 2007 Golden amber with fizzy white head. Malty bready aroma. Bready taste with a malty backbone and a good hoppy bitter bite. golubj (1275), Sunnyvale, California, USA Jun 11, 2007 Bottle. Aroma of some caramel malt and a little grapefruit / pine. The flavor is similar, mild bitter finish. Pretty standard pale ale. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA Jun 10, 2007 12 ouncer: Copper color with lots of streaming carbonation and frothy head that leaves plenty of lace in its wake. The aroma is delicate but complex. Notes of rose petals, perfume and fresh orange juice blend well with an ample dose of caramel malt. The body is spritzy and just a tad on the watery side. The hops play a secondary role in the creamy malt body. Caramel breads, toffee and butterscotch offset the amply bitter finish. Hey, whatcha know - Stone can brew a well balanced session brew! sstackho (249), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 9, 2007 12oz bottle. Decided to pick this one up instead of trying the Stone IPA since I needed to have some "calmer" beers for visitors. Pours a clear copper with medium head and carbonation. Aroma is a bit light and indistinct. And I have to say that the taste is also indistinct. It’s difficult to put in words, since there’s nothing that particularly stands out with this one. I’m a bit surprised at its relatively high ratings... (well, high overall, but a bit low for Stone.) Perhaps Stone’s reputation is responsible for this? I have to say I’m disappointed with this one - and that’s the first time I’ve ever had to say that about a Stone product. I wasn’t expecting anything over the top from their APA, but was hoping for more than this.
ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA Jun 7, 2007 Nose of citrus & pine resin, and flowers. Pours a sparkling copper with gold highlights. The fully lasting tight frothy off-white head has good lace. The flavor is surprisingly toasty. Not nearly as bitter as I was anticipating. Highly acidic middle. The laid back floral finish reflects a killer balance. The medium body is creamy and soft, the finish feels dry. More like a session brew such as an ESB than a pale IMO. ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jun 7, 2007 Hey! It’s quittin’ time. Let’s have a beer!
Appearance: Pours out a brown-orange color with a sizeable, frothy white head. This is gonna be child’s play. Course, I gotta drink it first.
Smell: Hmm. Have you ever, in your life, smelled such a fruity pale ale? Honeydew melon and fresh strawberries are present, as is toffee sweetness and some faintly citrus notes.
Taste: Tangy, with a lively fruity flavor. Plenty of malt caramel sweetness in the mouth. Ends with a snappy, crisp hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Carbonation is sparkling, providing for a spiriting mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Decent and well-balanced. A noble Pale Ale.
