3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
It smells just like an average ale would.
Medium golden brown in color
medium head. it is a little sweet with a little bitterness. It has a little citrus after taste but nothing overpowering. overall its a pretty good beer. If you like an ale thas easy to drink with a little bite and a little flavor this is perfect.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JAN 12, 2014 bready malts with nut aroma, dark amber (orange) color, white head that things but stays throughout drinking, medium bitter taste, more hoppy than expected, medium body, lacing throughout drinking, bitter finish that fades. Not my favorite pale ale but something to serve and drink when only 1 or 2 will do.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: OCT 14, 2004 Clear amber color - small head. Not as hoppy as I had expected- partially covered by light caramel malts. Sweet mouthfeel and no aftertaste- easy to drink.

Pours a beautiful crimson with a light, slightly tan head. Slightly sweet aroma and a distinct yet light citrus hop note. Quite crisp yet very mellow on the palate with a very even balance between hop and malt. Finishes exceptionally cleanly with a slight lingering hop bite. A marvelously well balanced pale. Very sessionable.

A good all-around American pale. Not too overwhelming like some of Stone’s stuff. Nice balance of spicy hops. Great in the bottle or on tap.

12 oz. bottle. this PA was a bit heavy on the malt for me. nothing stands out as above average. the first Stone beer i do not see buying again, too many better PA’s out there without the stone price tag.

Another fine Ale from Stone. This one is at least the equal to Sierra Nevada, but with Stone IPA and Arogant Bastard on Tap,this one finishes third.

In my humble opinion this is exelent beer. Will dirnk any time. I found tis to be better than Stone’s own IPA.

Hipster lobby beer. Hanging out with the tivs in a hotel lobby. This will always be there. Hipsters from out of the zip code will love gargoyle. But as for beer. Always solid, always consistent, wonderful hoppy aroma, real clear not anal tort will bag on weird looking brew. Great finish.
