But the basic idea is more Hop Devil than Ruination, more Cascade than Willamette, more orange and pine than grapefruit. Really nice beer ... just a little bit less hoppy and less intense than an IPA (of course) but more like a small IPA than a traditional American Pale. I’ll stick with the Stone IPA, I think. durhambeer (1245), Durham, USA

I really like this beer, and I’m not a huge lover of pale ales. Pine wood, a bit of earthy dust, and some toffee on the nose, with more of a hint of hops than a full noseful. Some biscuit, grain and fruit in the mouth and a touch of sweetness. Also nice floral hints. Very malty for a pale ale, I think. Very satisfying. My new session beer... footbalm (1219), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 22, 2009 This is an almost perfect pale ale, and it is sold in grocery stores in Florida. Pours a caramel brown with an off-white head. Nose is lots of caramel and malt with noticeable citrus and pine hops. Flavor has a solid malt backbone with all manner of hops. Malt and hops in great proportion. Very enjoyable and sessionable pale ale. GAManiac (1212), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

It’s a generally impressive looking pale with a deep golden amber color with a creamy one-finger head that doesn’t seems to shrink at all and leaves large sheets of lacing.
The aroma is very subtle and balance with some light fruity hops, mainly lemon zest and oranges, along with some roasted caramel malts.
The taste follows the aroma and is just as well balanced with floral and citrus hops blending very well with the caramel malt backbone.
The mouthfeel is clean and soft with little bitterness and lots of carbonation.
This is a very well-crafted and understated beer from Stone and the drinkability is high as there is nothing over-the-top about this one. Nothing groundbreaking but a very good beer. OldMrCrow (1206), Seattle, Washington, USA

Pours a moderate amber; the aroma is pine and cracker malt. The flavor is a nice big dry hop blast (by APA standards, anyway). This is an aggressive APA in the SNPA vein, amply carbonated, enjoyable to drink, suffering slightly on the finish as some graininess emerges. Very nice nevertheless.
