Clear dark copper color, lasting fluffy tan head. Sweet, malty, fruity scent. Malty, grainy, harsh, bitter tate. Moussy mouthfeel, medium dry bitterness. Prolonged dry grainy harsh bitter aftertaste.

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2005 Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc, tupalev - courtesy of yours truly. Poured cloudy red-amber-orange with a large lasting foamy-bubbly off-white head. Aroma of typical rich, resiny citrus hops, solid malt backbone, touch of sourness - straightforward but nice. Taste is a solid if unspectacular west coast pale ale - plenty of malt, the bitterness is there but not overwhelming - very easy drinking. Creamy, average body. Very nice, not their best but a pleasant mild session brew.

Thanks to Sarah for the bottle. The body is a slightly hazy dark orange and almost copper color. The head is light khaki and a hint of yellow. The aroma has some oranges and caramel. There is also a hint of flowers A very tame smelling beer. The taste is toasted walnuts with some caramel and iced tea. There is a little bit of bread crust. The body is smooth with a light amount of carbonation. A good expample of the style, but more subtle than I expected.

Clear copper color with creamy off white head. Light aroma of malty caramel – like malts. Nice flavor of roasted and caramel malts then crisp pine hops for good balance. Tasty brew.

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2005 Thought I’d finally give this a more realistic rating: Bottle. Dark amber, slightly orangish with a good beige head. Big hop aromas (pine/citrus) with a caramel backing. Clean tasting, surprisingly malty (toasted malts, some biscuit), but the citrus hop flavor with a bit of spiciness dominates. Flavors some together very well and strike a balance - an in your face balance when you consider this is a pale ale, but balance none the less. It still wins our blind taste tests. I’ve had this beer many times and it has never failed to impress. In a blind taste test of 8 southern california pale ale’s, this beer came first on 7 of the 8 taster’s lists.
