COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep amber in color, Stone Pale Ale is robust and full flavored. A delicate hop aroma is complemented by a rich maltiness.

OK, I know Duane just said the same thing, but I also just had a Dales Pale Ale last night, and this has nothing on it. This APA doesnt have much body, the taste dies very quickly... its just kind of blah. nothing really sticks out. there are other APAs out there that are much more worthy of your time. on a more positive note it was at least nice to look at. nice amber color, nice off-white head, and a little bit of lacing on the side of the glass. the rest of the beer just didnt match up though

Clear copper red. Very fine cream head settles to a somewhat sticky complete cap leaving nice lace. Looks English. Smells English too. Toffee malt leads the way, supported by some yeasty bready notes. The hops seem more American, but are somewhat subdued, particularly for Stone. Overall, itís a very nice, surprisingly traditional package. Medium in the mouth. The malt stars again, and itís a bit too toffee-centric for me. Some hop flavor mixes it up, and a nice bitterness kicks in mid-palate. Finish is medium, with good bitterness and some minerally, almost sulphury notes. Mouthfeel is fine, and drinkability is hampered only by too much caramel/toffee for me. Very nice beer in its style, itís certainly not what I was expecting.

This is a nice pale ale. Flavors were balanced between malt, and a little bit of hops. It also had a very nice "crispness" to it, with a dry ending. I would drink this beer again, but it lacked something that would set it apart from other beers.

This doesnít seem to have half the oomph of other Stone brews. Frankly, I was rather dissapointed by the thinner mouthfeel and rather weak aroma. Itís good looking but thatís its best attribute.

Bottle. Small head on top of a strong brown, like rich Carolina clay mud. The flavorís malty with unstated hops and a bit of unwanted sour. It does go down very smooth, but the flavor isnít amazing and it leaves a less than perfect taste in my mouth. Itís a great session beer, but for what I had to pay for a sixer of this on the east coast, there are a lot of beers Iíd rather have.

Bottle. Pours a perfect amber with a nice 3/4 inch off white head. The aroma was peach and honey. The palate was somewhat thin to go along with the sweet and somewhat watery taste. I found this to be disappointing from Stone.

This should be better! For as good as Stone is at everything else - here is where it lacks a bit, and I am saddened by it! One nice thing is that it is thick for a pale which is interesting - but the flavor is not as kicking as it should be!

Perhaps I should have had the Stone IPA after this one but I decided to have this one with the pizza. Pours a very very faintly hazy medium bourbon under a medium size medium short lasting light yellow head. Faint hop aroma and not much else - a touch disappointing for a Stone beer. Flavours of medium aromatic woody hops followed by mildly sweet caramel malt. Aftertaste was medium length medium intensity and crisp. BTW - went extremely well with anchovy pizza.

Bottle. This is a very, very malty beer. So many malts that the best one word to describe this is earthy. There is a nice bitter there that borders on too much. I love Stone, but this one just didnít do it for me. Too musty.
