4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Poured hazy orange copper color with an average frothy tan head that lasted with good to excellent lacing. Aroma was a heavy roasted peppers, strong dark alcohol aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Heavy complex toasted roasted peppers and dark smooth flavor and a heavy complex dark finish of long duration. This is a complex standout beer.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
A: The beer pours an ominous murky amber color with a barely-there ring of tan foam.
S: You can smell the peppers before the glass even gets near your face. The heat is quite intense and the pepper smell is very, very green and fresh. I can’t really even smell anything else, actually.
T: It starts off hot with a lot of chile flavor. There’s a bit of chocolate and oak that come through, but before you can enjoy them, the intense heat comes back and sits on your tongue for quite some time.
M: The body is medium and the carbonation is on the low end of medium. And the heat burns the back of your throat a bit.
D: This was pretty tough to drink. I would say even if you’re a big chile beer fan this would be painful.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Oakquinox. Pours with a syrupy, hazed red body with no head. Less peppers in the aroma than Crime. Aromas of caramel, pepper, alcohol and vegital. Flavors are peppery, smokey, burn and alcohol. Very harsh. Syrupy mouthfeel with light bubbles. A decent pepper beer, but I don’t see myself rushing out to try this again.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pouring at the Night of the Barrels at EBF. Pours a clear garnet brown with a thin beige head. Big spicy heat and pepper notes. Sweet, spicy and warm. Heat and smoke, big fresh fleshy pepper. Long slow gentle heat. Both of the Stone pepper beers were excellent.

1.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
Common rating for Stone Punishment and Stone Crime
In short: Beers dominated by excessive presence of hot jalapenos peppers. I hated them.
How: Tap at Extreme Beer Fest 2011, Night Of The Barrels.
The look: Cloudy golden brown body topped by a beige ring of foam
In long (common to both): Nose is annoyingly spicy (Mexican hot spices), so much so that I couldn’t really smell anything else. Taste is jalapenos peppers that burn the palate over some caramel. Medium carbonation and oily texture.
Stone Punishment: As if the peppers were not burning my palate enough, there was an alcohol that was just the drop that spilled the glass. 2-3-2-2-4 = 1.3
Stone Crime: Less boozy and some of the juicy hops resin of the base beer (Lukcy Basartd) was there to alleviate the suffering. 3-3-3-2-6 = 1.7
Conclusion: By using the same hot peppers on two of their beers Stone wanted to kill two birds with one stone, but instead they killed two Stones with one spice.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
500, capped and foiled. Pours a murky dark brown with a loose tan head. Sooty, earthy, campfirey nose. Creamy thick body with soft carb. Fiery, ashy, sooty, earthy pepper-hot mid palate with a long fiery finish. Totally imbalanced and overbearing.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy reddish brown with no head. Very big chile presence to the aroma. Sweet caramel upfront gives way to chile pepper burn. It’s hot.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sampled from the tap at NotB. Poured a hazy amber with a yellowish straw head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of hot peppers with a bit of pine hop and a hint of dry wine from the barrels. Flavor was intense with heat that built. A bit of a grain backbone but pretty much spiced throughout. A bit overly spiced in my opinion.

bottle. touch one to drink a lot of unless you love mind blowing pepper heat. Chili peppers dominate everything in this reddish copper beer. a touch of lingering sweet maltiness make a feeble attempt to counterattack heat; to no avail. great to try though
