COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Q: “What do you call it when you take a sip of oak barrel aged Double Bastard Ale that’s had the other half of the bounty of chili peppers from Greg’s home garden ceremoniously added in, resulting in a punishingly intense level of hot pepper heat to an already overly intense beer whose elevated alcohol level caused a significant transference of pain-inducing capsicum?” A: “Punishment.”
Punishment is 2013 Double Bastard Ale brewed with freshly harvested peppers and aged in bourbon barrels. Brutally hot and unyielding in its imposition, this intensely hellish spawn of Caribbean red hots, fatalis and Moruga scorpion peppers is a just dessert for any spice-taunting masochist who dares to engage it.

Sickly hazy orange in the glass. Smells like fresh peppers with some heat. Tastes hot; pepper fire with some chocolate/malt/cream flavor. Sightly more tolerable than Crime.

Pours dark murky brown with a small light tan. Smells spicy with undertones of vanilla and roast. Taste is killer spicy with hints of bitterness and vanilla sweetness. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Stone Punishment finishes with a lingering extreme spiciness.

500 ml bottle- Pours hazy dark orange with a small light tan head. Aroma is strong in peppers, jalapenos and other peppers i’m sure, malt. The taste is strong pepper taste, intense heat burn, toasted coconut, wood. Body is full and carbonation is medium. Great, not for the weak! This is better than Crime, they are similar, but this seems to be more well rounded, behind all that heat which I love you can really taste a fine quality barrel aged beer, crazy experiment that only the outlaws of the craft beer movement would attempt, you’re the best Stone!

So bad. That’s all I need to say. Smell of awfulness. Taste is even worse.

Bottle. Pours murky garbage. Aroma is hot, how does that happen? I’m afraid... Taste is hot, hot, hot. Why? I don’t get it. I want my money back.

Pours a hazy copper from the bottle with minimal head or lacing. Aroma is pepper on pepper on a hint of wood. Taste is just heat, no way around it, burns your mouth, burns your throat, burns your esophagus, burns your gut. Why.

Bottle: (possibly made from surplus Space Shuttle tile) Cloudy amber with a short,off-white head. Aroma is strong pepper juice/extract. Taste is...well....I’m not sure taste is an actual consideration in this situation. Are pain and discomfort acceptable descriptors of flavour? This is simply brutal...searing, ascending, biting hot. Far more intense than it’s wussy cousin Crime. Once again, I have to give a Stone creation a few higher points just for the sheer madness of it all. FUN FACT: Interestingly, 12 ounces of Keystone Light taken internally via shotgun delivery at just above freezing temperature is an effective nullifying agent. Administering plain water is most definitely contra-indicated.

Bottle. Pepper and bready caramel malt aroma - peppers dominate but malt comes out more as it warms. Cloudy amber with small head. Light toffee malt flavor initially but this is quickly overwhelmed by the pepper burn. First sip set the back of my throat on fire and the burn didn’t fade. Second sip lit up my tongue and took a couple more sips to get to the lips. Each subsequent sip was like a mini-flame thrower in the tongue and throat. Didn’t think they could beat Crime but they did. However, can’t tell if there was much more than the peppers though - only a masochist could handle much more than a few ounces.

UPDATED: MAY 21, 2014 Bottle. I am all for experimentation in the brewing process but the bottle we had was bad. Myself and the other 6 people i tried this with just dumped out our glasses. I?m not really sure why they would bottle this and charge people $20 a bottle. I am glad I was not the one who bought it.

750ml bottle. Hot sauce beer is what this is, very peppery and fruity flavor up form, medium to high burn in the backend. Finally beer with actual heat.

Got a snifter of this from a friend who stupidly paid for it. Nose of chilis, black pepper, caramel, orange, tabasco sauce. PRetty red-brown-orange color with lace. The one good thing about this. BIt of sweet caramel in the mouth before the burn. This is bullshit. Offensive and disgusting and has no business being marketed or sold. Shame on them for making this.
