This collaboration beer is a celebration of the homebrewing spirit and an example of counter-intuitive thoughts coalescing beautifully into something exceptional. Case in point is the seamless marrying of toasted coconut and a hop bill brimming with tropical fruit notes. Longtime homebrewers Robert Masterson and Ryan Reschan teamed up to enter this beer in our annual American Homebrewers Association-sanctioned brewing competition and, though it was the first beer they’d ever brewed together, they sailed past the competition like a tropical ocean breeze on a pleasure cruise bound for India. After winning, the duo reached out to their friend, highly decorated homebrewer and 2011 AHA Ninkasi Award winner Paul Sangster of the newly opened Rip Current Brewing Company, to assist in dialing in the recipe. Together with Sangster’s skilled partner Guy Shobe and Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele, Masterson and Reschan present fellow craft beer enthusiasts with a most delicious and original style of IPA. Open, enjoy, rest, relax and repeat as needed.

Amber in color. Strong hops in taste and aroma with a mild toasted coconut flavor. Not super strong on the coconut but a tasty IPA nonetheless. YAP!

On tap @ World of Beer Renton. Pours bright orange copper with medium thick white head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt and thin hops on the back. Taste is medium sweet caramel malt, with rich hoppy coconut finish. Notes of bitter earthy hops take over from the coconut at the end. Tasty, and balanced - not overly sweet. Coconut is mild, nutty, and balanced. Nice. .

Bottle from Princetons, Nice orangish pour with a fluffy white head. Big citrus aromas, light coconut. Taste is citrus, nice pine bitter, wheres coconut?

Nice hoppy bitterness. Coconut is not very prominent- not sure if that's a good thing or not. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma of bitter pine, sticky grass and slight grapefruit zest. Very west coast IPA. Pours amber with a huge head. Taste is bitter and hoppy with pine and grass. No sign of coconut but plenty of Stone IPA-ness. A let down for the coconut but certainly a solid IPA.

From 22oz bottle. Golden with cream/white head. Aroma of a decent IPA. Tastes like a decent basic IPA - with no hint of coconut whatsoever. I was very surprised - I've always been very sensitive to coconut, being able to sniff it out in grocery stores when I was a young'un. (Could I do the same with good stuff like chocolate? Noooooo, but yucky coconut I could.) I am very surprised. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Warren’s Ale House in Wheaton, IL., and dispensed to a flute with a hazed, orangy amber color, frothy, white head foam, and wavy lacing. The nose was immediately toasted coconut, then complementary tropical and citrus notes. Medium+ bodied, the flavor was quite potent and lingering hop bitterness, with a hefty dose of malt to match and temper. Too much competition for any remaining coconut notes. Some syrupy slickness was noticed, with a malty sweetness that also lingered, and was a little bit too much for me to fully enjoy the brew.

Bomber from Beer Run. Pours a clear amber color with a large dense creamy white head that sticks around forever. Aroma of floral, citrus, herbal hops, some pine, toasted malts and some coconut. The taste is pine, resin hops, with a coconut finish. Medium bodied and the coconut is present without being over the top. Very interesting beer.

22 oz. bottle via local trade. Pours a clear, rich golden color with a good inch of frothy white head. As this is winding down, some head is still there. Spots of lace. Aroma of caramel and sweet malts, cream, vanilla, pineapple, pine, herbs, grapefruit, and orange. Flavor of grapefruit, orange, caramel, coconut, grass, pine resin, and florals. Lingering citrusy bitterness. I didn’t really pick up on coconut in the nose but maybe it was the sweet cream/vanilla thing. Light-medium bodied, with a sweet, bitter, resinous mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Solid IPA.

Pretty good. The closer it got to room temp the more the coconut came out. Other than that its pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
