3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours copper with a rich beige head and a citrus aroma. There is a full-bodied caramel malt flavor with a hint of coconut and a nice hop profile. Refreshing and tasty.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle. Clear golden orange with an off white head. Aroma is citrus peel, caramel candy, tropical fruit and pine. Flavor is plenty of bitter hops with some sweet sugary malt for balance and light dry alcohol. Medium body with average carbonation. Not a bad beer but I really don’t get much coconut at all.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Jerry’s. Hazy dark gold with modest, creamy white head, light legs / Nose of citrus, pine, candied sugar / Medium body, chewy, somewhat malty and sweet but with biting hops, and bitter finish / Muddy flavors of pine, grapefruit, orange, caramel, fairly subtle coconut / I like the subtleness of the coconut, which probably could have used a slight boost, but the overall ipa is rather mediocre.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
22floz/650ml bottle into a tulip glass. Served cool.
Aroma: Citrusy hops, like most Stone beers, but kind of fruity. A little bit sweet even.
Appearance: Clear orange/amber body with a mild-moderate white head.
Taste: Tastes like Stone’s IPA. I’m having trouble finding the coconut. There’s a coconut-y taste at the very end of the taste, but mostly it gets lost in the hoppy punch. If Stone had tuned down the hops in this one, it could have shined. However, the coconut just gets lost and only barely shows up at the end.
Palate: Nice moderate-full body. Finish is all bitter hop, and if you look for it, a tiny bit of coconut.
Overall: I don’t think everything has to be an IPA. Just like how I don’t think vodka has to be flavored with every flavor under the sun. Coconut works in things like Maui’s Coconut porter, because it plays off the chocolate-y malt. The hop profile that Stone uses so much (and is quite good) just doesn’t work here. It’s a nice IPA, but the coconut is smothered.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle purchased at Blacklick Wine & Spirits. Clear gold to amber pour with a thick off-white head. Malty and citrusy nose with spicy hop notes. Malty flavor quickly followed by spicy hops and a bit of citrus before a grassy hop finish. Not detecting any coconut, but still a tasty IPA.

22 oz bottle. Clear orange with a white head. Nose is orange, lemon zest, pineapple and eventually clams. Coconut is barely there but does soften the hops adding a milky note. Medium body with scratchy carb. Taste is grass, citrus peel and quinine. Hints of coconut but you’d never guess.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours amber with foamy head. Nose is hoppy, floral. Taste is hoppy, some bitterness, a little tropical fruit, maybe a hint of coconut. I'm not tasting what they're telling me I should , in a coconut ipa I expect more than a hint of coconut. Not a bad beer, but not as advertised.

This one took me awhile to get. Initially I thought it was nice but nothing stood out. After it warmed a tad and after drinking about half the bottle the flavors started to come forward. Nice tropical IPA. Very drinkable. Sun tan lotion in the aroma and flavor.
