COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This collaboration beer is a celebration of the homebrewing spirit and an example of counter-intuitive thoughts coalescing beautifully into something exceptional. Case in point is the seamless marrying of toasted coconut and a hop bill brimming with tropical fruit notes. Longtime homebrewers Robert Masterson and Ryan Reschan teamed up to enter this beer in our annual American Homebrewers Association-sanctioned brewing competition and, though it was the first beer they’d ever brewed together, they sailed past the competition like a tropical ocean breeze on a pleasure cruise bound for India. After winning, the duo reached out to their friend, highly decorated homebrewer and 2011 AHA Ninkasi Award winner Paul Sangster of the newly opened Rip Current Brewing Company, to assist in dialing in the recipe. Together with Sangster’s skilled partner Guy Shobe and Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele, Masterson and Reschan present fellow craft beer enthusiasts with a most delicious and original style of IPA. Open, enjoy, rest, relax and repeat as needed.

22 oz. bottle. I don’t like coconut, so I’m not sure why I bought this. Pours a nice clear orange color with a small white head. Aroma of strong pine, hops, gloral notes, citrus notes, with touches -- and I mean this -- gentle touches on coconut. Flavor is strongly bitter with afterthoughts of coconut. Kind of funny. I was concerned this would be too much coconut, but Stone hit the right notes on this one.

22 oz bottle- Pours hazy golden with a white head that reduces to a blanket. Aroma is tropical fruity hops, lots of hops, some malty sweetness. The taste is tropical fruit, pungent hops arrive just after the swallow, nice amount of bitterness, I get the toasted part, but not too much of the actual coconut, which is odd. Very good IPA, for the true hop heads, extremely hop forward!

Tap at m five in las Cruces NM august 2013 Poura bright orange hue with a very small fizzy eggshell.white head. Nose of big resin light musty notes pinecone some tropical fruits some tangy sweetness. Flavors are all over the place.lots of pine and resin sweetness big sugary resin notes very dirty hop profile. Long resin finish. Ohmmeter doesn’t really impress me like a lot of their other opal releases.

Bomber pours clear orange with big two finger white head that slowly fades and leaves very nice lace. Aroma is apricot, some mango, light coconut but its there for sure. Taste is interesting, the coconut is like a coconut water taste mixed with short lived mango then it goes into bitter piney hops. Good brew but i was hoping for stronger coconut flavor.

Bomber. Ok this IMHO is much worse then ruinten and enjoy by. It's harsh and at first I get no coconut. To be fair as it warms I pick up coconut but I thought it weak in the nut department. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The coconut does not ad much to this ipa. Kinda adds confusion. Muddier than a typical stone brew. Thin head. Hoppy not crisp. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Gold to light copper, clear, light head, light ring, light lace. Resiony hop aroma of pine, black pepper spicey-toasty /roasty like, with some sweetness, fruit, to hop complex to point out actual coconut-- but there is a toasty sweet kind of aroma in this and some oaky /woody- like tannins. Taste is a little maltier/sweet for an ipa, piney, fruit, some oaky, pretty bitter with grapefruit pith. As far as coconut goes in this strong ipa, only a sweet almost vannilla oaky like quality makes it coconut. Very nice ipa. Maybe if this aged a bit and the hops subsided would you be able to find the coconut. Very enjoyable ipa.

Amber in color. Strong hops in taste and aroma with a mild toasted coconut flavor. Not super strong on the coconut but a tasty IPA nonetheless. YAP!

On tap @ World of Beer Renton. Pours bright orange copper with medium thick white head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt and thin hops on the back. Taste is medium sweet caramel malt, with rich hoppy coconut finish. Notes of bitter earthy hops take over from the coconut at the end. Tasty, and balanced - not overly sweet. Coconut is mild, nutty, and balanced. Nice. .
