COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This collaboration beer is a celebration of the homebrewing spirit and an example of counter-intuitive thoughts coalescing beautifully into something exceptional. Case in point is the seamless marrying of toasted coconut and a hop bill brimming with tropical fruit notes. Longtime homebrewers Robert Masterson and Ryan Reschan teamed up to enter this beer in our annual American Homebrewers Association-sanctioned brewing competition and, though it was the first beer they’d ever brewed together, they sailed past the competition like a tropical ocean breeze on a pleasure cruise bound for India. After winning, the duo reached out to their friend, highly decorated homebrewer and 2011 AHA Ninkasi Award winner Paul Sangster of the newly opened Rip Current Brewing Company, to assist in dialing in the recipe. Together with Sangster’s skilled partner Guy Shobe and Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele, Masterson and Reschan present fellow craft beer enthusiasts with a most delicious and original style of IPA. Open, enjoy, rest, relax and repeat as needed.

Weak citrus, floral hop aroma... Clear, golden yellow in color... Flavor is dry and crisp, notes of hemp, tropical fruit, floral and spicy hops on the palate... Don't taste any coconuts... Still a solid ipa ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

It's tough to get to the coconut, but it's there at the end. It's not the banana boat suntan lotion coconut aroma and flavor, but more like coconut milk. The IPA is a stone classic with grapefruit and mango flavors in the hop profile. Yum ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear orange pour with a solid white head. Aroma was tropical fruits, typical stone IPA, solid. Coconut was nowhere to be found. Flavors were in the same realm. Lots of fruity hops, touch of caramel, sweet citrus. Good IPA. Coconut IPA? Not so much.

Bottle into goblet. Pours dark gold. persistent white head and thick lacing. Aroma is slightly buttery, vanilla, orange. Super thick, unpleasant mouthfeel. Big butter and vanilla taste with assertive bitterness. Gonna go drainpour the rest of this.

Huge thanks to Stawn for this one. Pours a semi cloudy honey color with minimal head. Aromas of grassy hops, some citrus. Taste is a citrus explosion with some bitter Tylenol. Don’t get any coconut. Finishes with a bitter astringency. Pretty solid.

Pours clear orange with a thin white head. Aromas of citrus and mango dominate with just a hint of milky coconut. Taste is melon up front, semi sweet malt, a pine/melon blend, and a finish of smooth coconut. Sticky but not harsh on the palate. Wowsers! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bottle, split amongst friends. This one poured a clear, light, almost straw colored orange, with a nice slightly off-white head, lasting. Aroma is notes of very light coconut water, with notes of tropical, almost dank hops. Flavor is light coconut, dominated by tropical fruits. Good, though it felt more boozy than the 7.7% it claims. Interesting.

Pours dark yellow with white head. Floral, citrus hops. Bitter throughout, lean and crisp. This is a great ipa, like Stone’s regular ipa, for which it tastes almost the same. This is a good beer, but I didn’t get any cocconut, which is why a rated it lower in the overall score.

22 oz. bottle. Pours bright orange with a tight thin white head that leaves a wispy film and collar. Aroma is piny grapefruit slightly resinous and subtle sweetness. Taste is bitter pine fruit and resinous with good mild malt balance and spice with a hidden sweetness. Palate is medium solid carbonation and sticky dry finish. Really nice IPA, and I am still trying to find any distinct coconut.
