COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This collaboration beer is a celebration of the homebrewing spirit and an example of counter-intuitive thoughts coalescing beautifully into something exceptional. Case in point is the seamless marrying of toasted coconut and a hop bill brimming with tropical fruit notes. Longtime homebrewers Robert Masterson and Ryan Reschan teamed up to enter this beer in our annual American Homebrewers Association-sanctioned brewing competition and, though it was the first beer they’d ever brewed together, they sailed past the competition like a tropical ocean breeze on a pleasure cruise bound for India. After winning, the duo reached out to their friend, highly decorated homebrewer and 2011 AHA Ninkasi Award winner Paul Sangster of the newly opened Rip Current Brewing Company, to assist in dialing in the recipe. Together with Sangster’s skilled partner Guy Shobe and Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele, Masterson and Reschan present fellow craft beer enthusiasts with a most delicious and original style of IPA. Open, enjoy, rest, relax and repeat as needed.

Hazy amber beer with a big off white head. The head tastes of coconut cream! Palate is sotfish with fine carbonation. Very light coconut. Light ripe orange hops. Whisper of skunk. Nice pine. Finishes smooth and soft. Comes together well and is very drinkable.

22oz bottle. Crystal clear amber body with medium beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, grapefruit, some orange, light cream. Taste is moderately sweet, grapefruit, light orange. Smooth medium body, some resin. I think I can taste the coconut very lightly, but that may just be wishful thinking. Even if I can’t, this is a tasty (double) IPA.

Early that evening, womencantsail went out to the bar with the suggestively dressed women and the blasphemous theme. Arriving at the bar, he saw ChinoSkillzian sitting under the big beer sign looking tired rather than exuberant in his bright white shirt. ChinoSkillzian waved to him as he entered the threshold. At the table, womencantsail found a pint of R&R Coconut IPA and sitting in front of it, noted the clear orange hue and the soft white head. He inspected its aroma with great interest, noting scents of coconut, pine, grapefruit, and tropical fruits. Without hesitation, he lifted the glass to his mouth, tilting it back to release the contents within. Flavors of bitter pine, grapefruit, and sweet coconut danced on the tongue. Sticky, almost chewy, he at least finished the gulp of this new libation.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours clear copper with a creamy white head. Aroma is citrus/melon. Med body. Flavor is very mixed fruit with a touch of pine. Nice caramel backbone. It is not harshly bitter, and it is not entirely dry. Dry is arguable. But the flavor is very delicious. Comparing impressions 2 of us were hard put to find coconut. Toasting coconut may mar the flavor into unfamiliarity here. Very good drink - coconut or no.

Medium to full body with a slick texture with soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy bittersweet flavor with a moderate to heavy bittersweet finish of medium to long duration. Very good brew.

22oz bottle. Poured a black color with an off white head. Where’s the coconut? Maybe some in the tastes as it warmed up, but I’m stretching there. Floral and citurs.

Bomber from Beer Run. Pours a clear amber color with a large dense creamy white head that sticks around forever. Aroma of floral, citrus, herbal hops, some pine, toasted malts and some coconut. The taste is pine, resin hops, with a coconut finish. Medium bodied and the coconut is present without being over the top. Very interesting beer.
