COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This collaboration beer is a celebration of the homebrewing spirit and an example of counter-intuitive thoughts coalescing beautifully into something exceptional. Case in point is the seamless marrying of toasted coconut and a hop bill brimming with tropical fruit notes. Longtime homebrewers Robert Masterson and Ryan Reschan teamed up to enter this beer in our annual American Homebrewers Association-sanctioned brewing competition and, though it was the first beer theyíd ever brewed together, they sailed past the competition like a tropical ocean breeze on a pleasure cruise bound for India. After winning, the duo reached out to their friend, highly decorated homebrewer and 2011 AHA Ninkasi Award winner Paul Sangster of the newly opened Rip Current Brewing Company, to assist in dialing in the recipe. Together with Sangsterís skilled partner Guy Shobe and Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele, Masterson and Reschan present fellow craft beer enthusiasts with a most delicious and original style of IPA. Open, enjoy, rest, relax and repeat as needed.

UPDATED: MAR 28, 2014 Bottle: Hazy amber body, eggy white head that lasts nicely and leaves behind some wet lacing. Aroma is lightly dank hops, some floral perfume, and only a tiny bit of coconut milk. Not much coconut to the nose at all. Taste has a little more coconut to it, some sweet milkiness that sounds weird for an IPA but kind of works. Mainly because itís balanced well by some perfumey and floral hops, leafy and lightly piny. Still plenty good, but I was actually hoping for a bigger coconut presence.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass and a tulip. There was a one finger white foamy head over top of a light hazy golden yellow to slight orange colored body. There was some light lacing glazing along the sides. The aroma definitely had the coconut in a nice sort of sweet way. Thereís also a light cocoa. The taste was mainly sweet through the coconut and light cocoa. Thereís some light citrus that ends up coming out in the flavor. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly good sessionability. The carbonation was good for the style and for me as it was slightly harsh. Overall, this was quite the creative IPA that had some different qualities not normally seen in this style. Still, it fits the bill and brings to the table a well worthy beer to come back to.

Tastes like the potpourri you smell in a Midwest Christmas gift shop. Had on tap in a 4 oz taster glass. Nothing subtle on this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a mild orange with a thin white head. Nice citrus hop aroma and light malt character. Moderate bitterness is pleasantly balanced. Flavor of citrus, caramel, and hop resin. Smooth. I didnít really pick up on coconut addition until well into the finish.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 22oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label on the bottle listed the abv at 7.7%. Appearance: The body has a cloudy appearance with a deep golden yellow color and a tight half inch white head on top. The head is slow fading and it makes lots of nice slick lacing on the glass as I drink and swirl the beer. Smell: Its aroma hit me right from the opening of the bottle. It is full of big sweet juicy hops, which is just what I was expecting from a Stone IPA. I was unable to distinguish any noticeable coconut character from the big tropical fruit like hop notes. Taste/Palate: Right up front there is a big hit of juicy hop character with notes of citrus and tropical fruit notes over a bed of light creamy malt and some bready yeast as well. The coconut flavor is mostly lost in the big hop notes but it does add to the overall character. This slowly fades into a more pine like hop presence that also brings lingering hop bitterness. The palate feels right on, not too light and not too heavy. Likewise the carbonation adds just enough lift to keep it lively. Notes: Classic Stone hop forward IPA.

Bottle. Tastes a lot better than it sounds. Pours cloudy yellow with small white head. Nose is some citrus and earth. Coconut comes through a little in the taste. A good IPA.

Decent IPA I guess, but I've had two bottles and never even got a hint of coconut in the aroma or taste in either one. Tried at all temperature ranges and nothing helped. Since there is no coconut, Stone makes other IPAs that are better, so I won't be going back to this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a nice clear golden color with light white head. Coconut, citrus, pine, and grass on the nose; follows onto the palate. Coconut hangs on and finishes out nicely.

Pours a clear yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is citrus, but no coconut. Coconut is also missing from the flavor. Very little citrus taste, and the finish is a large dose of dry bitterness that leaves an unpleasant aftertaste. Not only is the lack of coconut disappointing, but the beer isnít great either.

This presents an oily, cloudy dark yellow body under a white head. Fruity hop aroma and light coconut. The flavor is bitter. itís first and foremost; the coconut aspect is way in the back. Could be a little less bitter.

Pour is transparent t golden Amber with a tight creamy head. Nose is aggressively bitter, citrus and grapefruit with some bready malt. Taste follows suit, a little less bitter and sweet, cleaner hop profile. Medium body and assertive carb, dry finish.
