"This one was an odd duck. At firstpour, little of the barrel or the hops were coming outm just a soapy aroma with a hint of tropical fruit. But, once it started to open up, the tropical fruits in the hops took over (though wihtout the vast majority of the bitterness) along with some lighter notes of vanilla, oak, and whiskey. The flavor was more of the same, with lighter bittering than even expected, and light to medium bourbon, with tropical fruit and vanilla being the star of the show. Can’t say this was as good or better than it’s cheaper base or cousin (RuinTen) but damn good and glad I tried it."

From notes, consumed on 6/27/13. Bottle poured into a Belgian snifter. Pours an amber/golden color with two fingers of off-white head. Great lacing, head fades moderately. Aromas of bourbon, coconut, citrus, faint hops. Tasting notes of pine, resin, hops, citrus, light bourbon, oak, coconut, caramel. Slightly warm finish, medium body. Could use a bit more bourbon in the taste.

Draft at stone. Clear orange pour, with a small off white head. Caramel malt, sweet, citrus, bourbon, oranges, and notes of vanilla. Ok.

On tap @ Stone. Orange-amber pour with a small, soapy off-white head. Aroma is intensely sweet. Quite sugary, lots of vanilla, and candied orange peel. Oxidized hop aromas, caramel, dates, and a bit of pine and grapefruit. Mild to moderate bourbon aroma. Flavor is very sweet. Tons of caramel, sugar, and sweet fruit--dates, oranges, and candied apple. Mild bitterness of pine and grapefruit. A touch woody, some vanilla, mild bourbon, and some alcohol.

500ml bottle, mirky orange pour not much head. Moderate nose. Flavors of Ruination have disappeared. Some vanilla and orange like flavors, not any Bourbon. Kinda of disappointed. Bitter finish. This one didn’t work out for me.

Bottle:   Orange side of amber, a fiery orange, hazy, HUGE fluffy off-white head, nice lacing.   Somewhat of a pixie stix aromatic aroma, faint citrus peel, a touch candied, some bourbon.   Somewhat of a strong piney and pithy start, not too bitter, certainly on the candied citrus side but also not all that sweet.   Soft bourbon, but almost not enough to notice.   The sweetness that is there reminds me of most Danish Pale/IPA/IIPA type beers.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Feels a bit warming and alcoholic, even at 7.8%.   Flat finish, moderate pine and pith, very little bourbon, lingering heat.   Despite the large pillowy head, the carbonation seems flatter than I would have liked.   Not really worth the $17 price tag.

Bottle received from DocJitsu in the OTM BIF (thanks so much Dennis!), and shared with Parksy and Grippitis. Hazy deep golden body crowned by a bubbly off white head that settles to a 1cm pad that displays excellent retention. While waiting for the carbo to settle, the aroma is surprisingly cider-ish, with lots of musty apple and wood. Once the body of the beer is allowed to breath, the sweet oaky bourbon becomes more apparent. On the palate, raw oak and sweet bourbon dominate as character traits, with nice underlying malt structure and barely-there hop aromatics, displaying hints of pine. The hops assert there presence in the finish however, delivering a palate-stripping bitterness. A completely new creature from the base IPA, but still an excellent beer.

Bottle. Poured into snifter. Moderate bourbon nose. Faint hops. Pours hazy orange color. Large head, rocky. Assertive hop presence with a moderate bourbon flavor mid palate. Finishes strong on the hops. Was expecting more bourbon. It’s a little rough around the edges. I may have wished I let this bottle sit a little longer. ---Rated via intercellular device Update as I drink more. This is getting to be a hot peppery mess as I drink more.

Bottle. Pours hazy butterscotch amber with a large white creamy head and nice lacing. Aroma is caramel, pine, faint bourbon, pretty simplistic. Flavor is the same, light sweet, medium bitter with an overall light bourbon presence and not a lot of individual character. Full body, creamy mouthfeel.

Bit of an odd one here. Gold/orange pour, smaller head. Whiskey, some citrus still prevalent here with overripe orange prevalent. Medium body, again lower carbonation for this series of beers. Pretty wild/extreme interpretation of ruination.
