3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 peteinSD (957) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 11, 2012Tap @ Stone O’Side. Golden pour with quickly fading white foam. Aroma is bitter hops with light pine and pepper. Taste is clean bitterness integrated with a pleasant habanero spice that builds in intensity and tickles your lips. I like that the peppers have heat but enough of the base beer remains to balance out the spiciness. I like chile/pepper beers and this one is well done IMHO.

Cask at Churchkey for CBC. Poured a clear golden color without much of a head to speak of. Aroma was subdued bitter hop aroma - more mild than the original Ruination, perhaps a touch of pepper notes in this one. Flavor was mild, hop notes and some mild chillies, also plenty of onion notes. Flavor was some mild heat - onions. Was hoping for something a bit more like Habanero Sculpin.

Cask at Churchkey for CBC. Clear golden pour. Weaker head. Near chemical nose with fresher orange Habanero skin, potpourri, Thai chili powder and pomelo. Taste adds very subtle heat and bitter Habanero skin and wax. Finishes with a quick flash of intense pepper but never anything overwhelming. Softer than expected.

Orange in color with a white head. Only a mild habanero note, but some decent spice. Citrus, mild tropical fruit, and pine. Sweeter and maltier than expected. Kind of tastes like old Ruination with hot peppers. Some habanero spice, grapefruit, mild pineapple, and bitter pine. A hint of alcohol and spice on the finish.

Draft. Pours a bright golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is pretty typical for Ruination, which is to say nice and hoppy with citrus, pine, etc. with the addition of a nice peppery spice that also adds a hint of berries. The flavor is, in my opinion, a great melding of the base beer and the addition of habanero peppers. Big caramel malts, big hops, citrus, pine, earthy and the perfect amount of peppery burn. This was a real treat to see in our area.

nice bitter citrus aroma. Similar taste profile to moral ruination, with a nice finishing habanero spice note and heat.

Snifter on cask at The Lackman, $8. Mildly hazy amber / orange color. Bubbly white head. Bubbles on the side of the glass. Regular hoppy ruination nose. Big habanero pepper in the flavor. Decent lace. Light bit of hop up front, but then that habanero heat pretty much washes everything else out. It’s very hot, but still sippable, luckily. It’s pretty much the max amount of pepper heat I think I could handle before it getting too difficult. Little burn on the lips, even. Soft, light carbonation, smooth texture. Bigger body. Big long hot habanero aftertaste. Some caramel malt. This is quite an experience, a nice sipper. Once you get past the initial habanero shock, you get accustomed to the heat, and are able to just take it. But this is huge habanero, make no mistake... Habanero Peppers with Stone Ruination IPA might better describe this
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sathorael (82) - Oceanside, California, USA - NOV 21, 2012
Aromas of pine, spice and citrus with a hint of pepper. Taste is very similar to the regular Ruination and has a gentle hint of habenero. The finish is hoppy and slightly sweet with a light peppery burn. Finish persists for quite a long time, building intensity as it goes. I loved this beer, but couldn’t drink much more then one glass.

On tap at Stone Bistro. Darker golden pour with a slight haze, and a white head. At first there are not much peppers, just pine, citrusy hops, grapefruit, bitterness, caramel malt and sweetness. After a few seconds a fresh spicy habanero burns the palate. Pretty good actually, not over done, but still quite a pepper kick.

On cask at haven gastropub in pasadena. Hazy dark gold with a frothy white head. Citrus aroma. Initial grapefruit immediately overpowered by the habaneros. Not for the feint of heart but paired nicely with short rib tacos.
