HoppyAlesToYou (24), , Indiana, USA Aug 23, 2009 Served in a snifter from a tap at 3 Floyds, I could not detect much in the aroma besides hops. That changed with the first sip, as the solid malt back bone presented itself and tempered the citrus and pine notes. Pleasant to the palate, this is one of the few in this style of which I could enjoy a couple of snifters without turning my mouth into a desert. Not too sweet, as others tend to be. JediMindTricks (239), Hampton, Virginia, USA Aug 22, 2009 Dark amber with a nice white head. Aroma is fruit, hops and bitter. Flavor is the same. Very nice beer. dagimp (104), Philly, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 21, 2009 From a 12oz bottle to a pint glass. Pours with 1 inch of thick white head and lots of lacing. Great straw/gold color looks great against the white head. Smell is of slight grapefruit and malt. Taste is overwhelmingly bitter and hoppy. Interesting blend of hop flavors grapefruit, pine, lime and pineapple with none dominating. If you like really hoppy IIPAs, you’ll like this one. I don’t. This didn’t have nearly the balance of malt that I prefer. Nonetheless a quality beer. KornDogg (168), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 21, 2009 Strong pine and hop aroma with a crisp copper appearance... very smooth as the balance between hops and caramel is perfect... always a fan of imperial IPAs BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA Aug 17, 2009 12oz bottle from the liquor store in Tyngsborro, Mass. Pours a light amber-yellow body with an impressive inch and a half of off-white head. Smells intensely hoppy, like few beers I’ve had - citrus and pine most notably, with just a tinge of caramel malt in the background. Smells like smelling a packet of hops when homebrewing. Tastes like orange, grapefruit, pine, pith... Just the slightest hint of caramel malt, just enough to balance the flavor and make the beer obnoxiously bitter. Medium in body with ample effervescent carbonation, both of which help aid the drinkability. One sip most definitely invites another. Perhaps the best DIPAs I have ever had. An absolute must for any hop-head. brianprentiss (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Aug 17, 2009 an in your face double ipa that is up to stone’s standards. slightly better than their standard ipa and worth the extra $ caresville (106), Vernon, New Jersey, USA Aug 16, 2009 Stone says this is "bracingly bitter" but i dont know if i totally agree. It is bitter but i know i have tasted much more bitter. Goes down smooth, very hoppy. I love IPAs and this puts many IPAs to shame. Very good, like basically everything Stone does. Beeronaut (49), Cambridgeshire, England Aug 16, 2009 Looked forward to this. Lovely drink for a warm day, and refreshing on the day after the night before. Pours true golden with a slight haze, small white head that laces around the sides. Aroma is fantastic, classic Stone bouquet. Can’t quite put my finger on it but it’s as if there’s an earthiness to the hops. The aroma is big with grapefruit to the fore, some tart passion fruit, vanilla and some orange peel, then a glue like note, essentially a very powerful resin aroma, some classic wet concrete/minerality. Flavour is as big as you’ expect, power-house hops but somehow quite controlled, it coats the palate but doesn’t really hit hard until it reaches the back of the tongue into the throat, then loads sour/bitter grapefruit, unripe grape skin, splash of resin, good fruitiness, quite tropical. Palate is mid-full bodied for the style, carbonation is just right. All in al a great brew for the hop heads, but I think one bottle from time to time is all you need as it is all about the hops and lives up to it’s Ruination name. Thumbs up!
