So called because of the immediate ruinous effect on your palate. 100+ IBUs. Bracingly bitter. Thick, pungent hop aroma. We would say that no hops were injured in the brewing of this beer, but that would be a massive lie. In fact, the words "Stone Ruination IPA" are what older hop vines use to cause little hop vines to quiver with fright and lose sleep at night . We at Stone honor the brutal massacre of countless hops with this "Liquid poem to the glory of the hop!" Paganism at its best!

As heady, bready and full an aroma as Iíve encountered in *any* brew . . . Not quite as bitter as the puffery would suggest (or, at least, not as bitter as the Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA I had last night). But, this double IPA definitely has some "junk in the trunk," with a chewy bottom-end that makes this brew a meal. Another outstanding offering from an exceptional brewery.

"Poured a nice amber color with little head which left quickly. Smelled of citrus and pine. Strong hoppy taste. I am beginning to like IPAs this one was good, but hard to say which is which."

The strong aroma of hops had me salivating like Rover in Pavlovís experiment. The solution is a golden-orange with a perfect off-white head. This beer introduces itself to the mouth like Louis Armstrong blowing the trumpet---ooh the bitter-sweetness of hops! The hops perk the tongue and leave that magnificent nutty flavor lingering long after the fluid has left the mouth.

Pours a light orange-gold, with a fluffy, bright-white head. The aroma is a full blast of citrus and pine, as intense as one of those cardboard tree air fresheners. One orange and one green. Initial flavor is fruit, then the "hoppiness" of hops, then the bitterness of hops, followed by the "greeness" of hops. Only after the initial assault has passed does a malty sweetness peek through, only to be obliterated by more hops in the aftertaste. Medium body, with an oily mouthfeel typical of super-high-alpha IPAs. Burps taste like hops hours later. Really.

Damage the hops I say. What an unreal taste. Wish this was avilable in Winnipeg.

Dark golden coor with thick white head and full lacing. Spicy, citrusy smell. Sweet hoppy taste. Sugary, caramel finish. Perfect style representation.

Rating #500 Pours a deep dark orangish amber color. Aromas of big hop action, sweet malts, and more hops. Flavor has some bready maltsy tastes with nice grapefruit and floral hop taste. This is one hoppy sumbitch. Stone sure knows what they are doing.

Ruination was my second experience with Stone Brewing, that is to say I indeed experienced the ruinous effects of the Ruination IPA. As Iíve mentioned before my penchant is usually towards the less hoppy of beers, but I can make an exception especially for the exceptional - of any style. In this case I had been preparing all day for the buccal massacre, so Stoneís craft was not so much of a slaughter as it could have been. The appearance of this so-called monster seemed rather innocuous, even mundane. Under the soapy bubble bath of a head hid a clear tangerine-colored liquid. Every citrus fruit you can think of finds its way into the nose of this beer: orange, grapefruit and lime especially are enhanced by the aroma of pineapple, apricot, apple and pear. Quite tropical of a blend. Toasty biscuits and graham crackers sweeten the deal and provide a light malt backbone. In the mouth, Ruination bears more resemblance to its name and takes on an aggressive persona. The abrasive carbonation and dry mouthfeel make it difficult to find complexity in the flavor which thus limits it to heavily burnt toast and a slight grapefruit tang. I can see what people like in IPAs, but my preference goes to less hostile styles as I generally donít equate beer and pain... Unless Iím going for a Century Club.
