4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz bottle Enjoy by 01/28/14?
Pours a nice looking golden beer with a tall rocky head that sticks around.
The assault begins on the nose; lots of citrus, iím talking grapefruit, bitter orange, mandarin, kumquat, some marmalade-y notes, possibly some dried apricot - ok, thatís not citrus, but whatever - good hit of grass and woodiness, perhaps not as much as previous Stone beers tasted. Nice bit of biscuity, golden syrup-like malt in support.
Reasonably subdued carbonation, full body has a sticky, clingy, slightly oily/resiny texture that hangs on the tongue.
Plenty more to offer on the palate - it just doesnít give in! Touch of light caramelised, toasty malt plays as backbone to more of those juicy and cooked citrus characters, becoming herbaceous and woody towards a long finish. Bitterness is aggressive but clean and very well balanced. Apparently they hide 8.2% alcohol in here too - oh well.
Very well made Double IPA indeed. Takes all the good points from their regular IPA, trumps them up, and still manages to be just as highly drinkable! Jolly good!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap pour at New Bohemia. Initial strong tropical grapefruit aroma. Paler than anticipated color...a golden yellow. Taste is a little more bitter than most double IPAs. The grapefruit just wants to hang around. Less malty sweetness than I would want. Aftertaste needs work. A recommended option from another solid Cali brewery.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Highly available anywhere. Not my favorite but a very good IPA. Overall a nice beer, I would never turn it down. This is Stoneís best. If you are new to the IPA market you will enjoy.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
My bottle was the revamped 8.2% offering, its been a long while since I had this so I cant really tell how different this is, but it remains a firm favourite. This beer is unbalanced in the good way, muddy bitterness mixed with heavy grapefruit and pine. I prefer a higher abv, so this bump to 8.2 is more than welcome. Excellent as ever from Stone.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is really a two trick pony, grapefruit and pine, but it uses them so aggressively, that you can forgive the lack of balance.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Golden crisp pour with a decent white head. A hop bomb. Grapefruit, mango, pine, cat urine, grass, toffee from the malty which provides somewhat of a counterbalance to the hoppy bitter backbone. Massive IPA with palate stripping IBUs. Amazing beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Beermoth, Manchester. Saved until now after getting it for Christmas; really excited to try this one. Pours a clear gold with a medium soapy head. Aroma is very floral, citrussy, grassy and absolutely packed with hops. Taste is a complete hop bomb, grapefruit and zesty with a high bitter backbone. Medium to high carbonation and a nice smooth finish, given the amount of hops. Exactly how an IPA should be; could be level, if not better than my go-to IPA of choice, Punk IPA. Just a shame itís so hard to come by in the UK!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A bit too bitter for me, at least when thereís no balance. Still good but preferred the Avery IPA. From back log 3 weeks ago.
