So called because of the immediate ruinous effect on your palate. 100+ IBUs. Bracingly bitter. Thick, pungent hop aroma. We would say that no hops were injured in the brewing of this beer, but that would be a massive lie. In fact, the words "Stone Ruination IPA" are what older hop vines use to cause little hop vines to quiver with fright and lose sleep at night . We at Stone honor the brutal massacre of countless hops with this "Liquid poem to the glory of the hop!" Paganism at its best!

UPDATED: MAY 21, 2006 From 22oz Bottle. Lovely transparant orangish-amber color with a quickly diminishing soapy white head. Wonderful aromas of freshly cut cedar and spruce boughs, grapefruit, and some slightly sweet dried apricot. Very full, rich, buttery texture. The hop balance is quite nice - the bitterness that sometimes dominates has been tamed to be proportional to the soft texture. Clean, well drawn out hoppy finish that lasts for minutes. Some spiciness noted toward the conclusion. Alcohol is pleasantly disguised. Clean, smooth, must try example of an imperial IPA.

Bottle courtesy of hippie4beer. Golden blonde with a small white head with great lacing and retention. This beer is meeker and milder than I remember. 3 years ago, this beer really pushed the envelope, but now it’s an average dbl IPA. Newer versions of the style would overpower this beer. Good, drinkable, but doesn’t ruin me like it used to.

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2006 Poured a beautiful amber color with a frothy white head that stayed (looked great for a pour from the bottle). The aroma was a hoptasm in my nostrils and upon the first sip, in my mouth as well. Good lacing on the glass. It isn’t hoppy to the point of overdoing, its truly right on the money. I’d drink this again and again. I think its nearly perfect.

Pours a nice gold -- with a little haze. Deep citrus and hop aroma. Bitter -- first taste is hops, second taste is hops with a long hop finish. Soft and creamy.

22 oz bottle, via Sprinkle. Pours a bright copper with a craggy white head. Crisp citric and pine hop nose with plenty of depth atop a caramel malt base. Aggressively hopped yet well balanced flavor. Very fresh and raw hop character with a clean and crisp finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation yields a soft and well rounded mouthfeel. Overall a very nice beer, packed with flavor. I must say though, when I drank this I didn’t feel that it really crossed the line into Double IPA territory. I suppose that is a testament to how well made this is because the usually alcohilic bite was just not there. Very drinkable.

Bomber poured a clear copper with a small, lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, pine and a hint of citrus. Palate was medium bodied and dry. Flavors of carmel, pine and some earthiness with a bitter finish. To much bitterness and not enough hop aroma and flavor for my taste.

Ruination pours smooth with light head filling the glass with a rich amber ale that has a very intising appearance. It goes down smooth with a hint of citrus leaving the palate awakened to the incredible world of hops.

Hazy orange-gold body with a fluffy, well retained, clingy white head. Fresh, juicy, citric grapefruit in the nose, thanks to the Amarillo hops. Sappy resins are also noticeable, along with a soft hint of caramel malt. Super citric, resinous Amarillo hops smack the palate, backed by a caramel malt backbone, which is present, but hides beneath the hoppy punch. Medium bodied and very easy to drink. A great IPA, and one I’d love to have on a regular basis.

Pour is clear orangey amber with a smallish dense off white head...smell is strongly pine with notes of grapefruit...super hoppy...taste is strongly bitter, but somewhat thin...nice wooly hop flavor though...quick bittersweet finish...

Tap. Cloudy pour. Godlen color. Aroma of hops is incredible. Very strong tasting. A wonderful IPA. Clean dry finish leaves the hop taste in your mouth.
