So called because of the immediate ruinous effect on your palate. 100+ IBUs. Bracingly bitter. Thick, pungent hop aroma. We would say that no hops were injured in the brewing of this beer, but that would be a massive lie. In fact, the words "Stone Ruination IPA" are what older hop vines use to cause little hop vines to quiver with fright and lose sleep at night . We at Stone honor the brutal massacre of countless hops with this "Liquid poem to the glory of the hop!" Paganism at its best!

[Bottle at Great British Beer Festival] Bam! A huge hit of citrusy hops as soon as your nose gets within about a foot of the glass - definitely an indicator of things to come! Pours a clear amber-gold with a loose white head. When it touches your tongue, youíre blasted with hops and citrus, which gives way to a lingering sweet, tangy hoppiness. Needless to say, there is a *long* dry aftertaste waiting for you. The words "import", "UK" and "right now" spring to mind. Are you listening, Sainsburys?

22 oz bottle. Pours a golden orange with a huge fluffy head that sticks around.

The aroma is flowery, grassy hops with some citrus, pepper, banana, cloves and a little toasted malt.

The flavor is citrus and pepper followed quickly by a big floral hop bitterness that lingers long and strong in the sticky aftertaste. Itís medium bodied and kind of light on the carbonation.

A good DIPA, but pretty one-dimensional. It has some of the most extreme hop bitterness Iíve had in a beer. It tames some as it warms.

Bottle. Usually I describe the color of the beer in the beginning, which I usually note first when taking notes. However, this guy was different. It was such a hop blast from the bottle, that I noted the aroma first. Huge insane citrusy hop aroma. Also noted that it was a sort of orange amber color. Somehwat malty, but nearly enough to balance the hops, which is the point. But instead of just being a one-dimensional hop-juice, the hops have enough malt backing to make it crazy overboard without being undrinkable. Some alcohol burn present. Insane bitter finish, and it lingers. Kinda unfair to call this an IIPA - it doesnít really compare to other IIPAs in style which typically have a more malty feel. Itís more in a category by itself, seems to me.

Pours a lighter golden orange with an average off white head that slightly laces the glass. Lightly citrus aroma, picked up some alcohol also. This is very heavy on the hops as expected. Somewhat smooth up front with lots of pine at hte end. Another solid imperial IPA, maybe not as well balanced as some of the others Iíve had, but still great.

UPDATED: SEP 2, 2007 Pours an amber body with a moderate head. Grapefruity and citrusy hops dominate the aroma with resiny notes. Some caramel backing, but not a lot of malt complexity. Itís funny to look back and think this used to be one of the most bitter beers I had. One of my favorites from Stone, but that doesnít say much.

(Bottle 65 cl) Nice, clear amber colour with a small, white head. Lovely spicy nose - ginger? Spicy flavors with lots of sweet caramel and hops - loads of them. Pronounced alcohol - almost grappa-like. Very unusual, but very delicate. Oh, did I forget to mention, that this is quite a bitter beer also?

I was expecting the hops... after reading reviews and the label... but I was surprised to taste the strong citrus and pine flavors that come out. Bitter aftertaste - great stuff - will have again!!!

this beer tastes like vodka mixed with pine sol and grapefruit juce. just kidding this was a good one. a lot of alcohol is apparent in the aroma and it is a little unbalanced, but i guess that is the point. i prefer stoneís regular ipa to this one

Pours a dark golde, with a white head. Aroma is hoppy, hoppy, hoppy. a litle sweet malts surface too. Taste is an explosion of bitter and aromatic hops. Grass, hay, flowers, all the superlatives you can use about hops. Taste is surprisingly well balanced for a beer this bitter. The malts do make a firm broad foundation for the wonderful hops. Aftertaste is long and bitter. P.S. Did i mention the hops?

Pours a hazy dark gold/orange color with a small amount of offwhite head. Aroma is delicious, perhaps one of the best ive ever smelled...huge amounts of citrus fruits and floral gardens. Flavor is slightly fruity and malty, then totally wiped out with a huge amount of hoppy bitterness and then finished with a dry sweet fruit aftertaste. Overall, I found the beer enjoyable. I drank it out of my sniffer and it was pleasant.
