COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
So called because of the immediate ruinous effect on your palate. 100+ IBUs. Bracingly bitter. Thick, pungent hop aroma. We would say that no hops were injured in the brewing of this beer, but that would be a massive lie. In fact, the words "Stone Ruination IPA" are what older hop vines use to cause little hop vines to quiver with fright and lose sleep at night . We at Stone honor the brutal massacre of countless hops with this "Liquid poem to the glory of the hop!" Paganism at its best!

Heya... as expected super hoppy. Huge hit of lychee, pine and citric bitterness. Rich, warming and a little medicinal. A malt liqour style shot of alcohol right at the end aswell. Nice bitterness. Thanks be to Greg from Stone!

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2013 As much as I love Stone’s DOuble Bastard Ale and Imperial Stout (and Imperial Stouts in general), this is perhaps my favorite beer ever. (Yes, Guinness is draught is something I can drink 24-7, but this is absolutely fabulous!) The initial sweet, hop aroma does not end in disappointment. Spicy, grapefruit aromas follow. The head this beer pours is prodigious, and the lacing it leaves is phenomenal. The hoppy palate is not quite what the label makes it it out to be, but I find it damn near perfect. This is THE standard IPA that all others should be judged by. Whle certainly not for hop-haters and light beer-lovers, it is an amazing brew. Try this beer!!! I can’t guarantee it will be your favorite ever, but you WILL enjoy it and respect its power.

How unassuming, sitting there in the glass. Amber in color with a soft looking white head. A soft grapefruity hop aroma drifting slowly to your nose. You lift the pint slowly to your salivating mouth then BOOOOOM!!! You get hammered with hop... Great beer though I'm not a hop head. I wasn't able to decipher much from this one because the hops stole the show which is what I thing they were going for... So good job Stone and keep up the good work.

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2004 fantastic, a smoothed out lagunitas maximus. nice amount of malts, great enough hops - grapefruit, citrus, pine, resin, and with just a fresh floral bite. creamy, smooth, tasty hoppy burps. good enough amount of malt to keep it from being too over-the-top. i'm a fan.

Pop the cap and prepare to get slapped around by the HUGE hop monster! Smells like a bouquet of hop flowers was shoved in my face, grapefruit soon followed along with some pine resin. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. If you're drinking this with other less intense beers, drink it last!

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2004 Ruination has a sweeter and more robust maltiness and a slightly more bitter hops character than Stone's standard IPA, and so the beer has better balance overall, but is light on malt for the double IPA category; Ruination also has a maltier and less hoppy nose than the standard IPA; Nose is floral with hints of bubble gum; The malt dies away to reveal a very hoppy finish with some citrus; Golden color and completely clear; Average head retention but with excellent lacing

I guess I'm what they call a hophead and generally can't get enough of them. I felt a little overpowered by this one. True what the boys at Stone say - a sip of this will ruin your palate for the next thing.

i guess i must be a bit of a wussie because i found this wasn't my thing. fruit salad aroma. surprisingly quick and short jab of bitterness and then assorted lingering hop flavours that were too plentiful to identify individually. after a while i found the flavour a little medicinal and the hop taste a little sour. interesting for sure, many thanks to the arrogant bastard

all i can say is.. wow.. excellent beer. wonderful aroma, great taste, as far as IPA's go, it really doesn't get any better than this.
