Alasdair (76), New Zealand Aug 26, 2009 Disturbingly drinkable hop-juice, with a lingering teeth-coating bitterness. manuchampions (95), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Aug 25, 2009 Hello my loverly! 22oz bottle from Bevmo in L.A.!
I remember hearing the hype about this beer and finding it all a little hard to believe. Brought my first bottle back to my swanky hotel room at the Roosevelt. The hops leapt out and assaulted me straight away. On pouring I was shocked by how much aroma was spilling out of the glass. The head literally stuck to the edges like shaving cream. This is one unholy IIPA. The flavour is so deliciously overwhelming that I don’t really think I can do it justice with flowery adjectives. It is simply one of the best beers I have ever had the pleasure of consuming. It almost feels appropriate that I consumed my first in a hotel room...it was akin to a beautiful one night stand that seduced me, took me home and did me the right way only to leave far too early and wanting more. Oh sweet temptress...until next time. kwerikson (61), burlington, New Jersey, USA Aug 25, 2009 absolutey nuts. this beer is like taking a hop and chewing on it with a bit of alcohol and not much malt with water added. it is brutal on the palate which i love and the fact that there is so much flavor in that kind of beer amazes me. i love stone and they really did on this one. the flavor from this beer is hops and even more hops. be prepared for this bad boy, only some true hopheads will drink this and say "refreshing". but it is an awsome beer, try it!! stpiker (4), USA does not count Aug 25, 2009 Very nice D-IPA... intense hop flavor & aroma, yet enough malt to give the beer a nice balance. Potent alcohol kick, but the hops definitely overpower the alcohol. Gpnterojd (162), Orangeville, Ontario, Canada Aug 25, 2009 Oozes hop aroma. Floral and grassy and grapefruity. Awesomely bitter. The first few sips cause IBU cringes, the last few are just perfect. Malt, yeast and alcohol are noticeable behind the massive wall of hops. The hops are piney, grapefruity and sweet. Astringency is not overbearing. This is tasty stuff.
Nmad dog. Sonicdescent (372), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 23, 2009 Pours a nice murky gold with a one finger head that turns into a crown with heavy lacing.
Hop scent is more floral than fruity, but very nice indeed.
Wow this is good. For the palate breaker this supposedly is, it is very nice tasting and refreshing and well worth it’s place in the top 100. Fruity hops are the emphasis with less on the (IMHO) less pleasant casade area.
Mouth is medium with medium carbonation. Works here.
I could drink this all the time. I am thinking more often that West Coast DIPAs kick the asses of those from our end. AtlAggie (131), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 23, 2009 Bomber at Brick Store. Robust amber/gold color, not much head. Aroma is hops and then some more hops. Flavor is aggressively bitter--really too much for my taste, which runs more to sours & malt, rather than hop bombs. I’ve developed a recent appreciation for some really well-done IPAs, but this one is really too aggressive, and lacking supporting malts, for my liking. sjmiller05 (12), Colorado, USA Aug 23, 2009 I buy the bombers at a local store, and this is one of my favorite Stone brews. Most of the aroma is hops, with a thick lacing and a nice gold color. The taste is bitter with a blend of grapefruit, orange and pine. Get it -- you won’t regret it!
