COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
So called because of the immediate ruinous effect on your palate. 100+ IBUs. Bracingly bitter. Thick, pungent hop aroma. We would say that no hops were injured in the brewing of this beer, but that would be a massive lie. In fact, the words "Stone Ruination IPA" are what older hop vines use to cause little hop vines to quiver with fright and lose sleep at night . We at Stone honor the brutal massacre of countless hops with this "Liquid poem to the glory of the hop!" Paganism at its best!

Pours a classic beautiful sunset orange color with a finger length of an off white head. Head dissipates slowly and leaves a thick lacing. Tons of carbonation coming off the glass. Smells of dank pineapple, grapefruit, mango, little lemon, tons of floral notes, some pine, tiny bit of carmel and breadiness. Taste starts with dank hop flavors, such as pineapple, lemon, orange, lots of floral notes, some spiciness. Really does have almost a skunky taste from the resinous hops. Then somewhat balances out with some sweetness from the carmel malts and some creaminess from the body of the beer, as well as more pleasant, less intense hop flavors. Then another hop explosion occurs in the finish, as more pineapple, floral notes, grapefruit, and orange come through. The carbonation on the finish cleans the palate and gets you ready for the next sip. High medium body. Very refreshing and really one of the classic beers of the west coast double ipa style in my opinion.

50cl bottle served in a pint glass. Pours a light almost pilsner colour with a voluminous white fluffy head. Aroma is almost medicinal with the hop presence but certainly not flowery. This is an extreme IPA and one that demands respect. Oily mouthfeel with a spicy bitterness and very little sweetness to balance the flavours but it still works (and very well at that). Not as a accomplished as the Arrogant Bastard but a supreme IPA that stands amongst the very best.

I was pretty surprised when I realized I haven’t rated this until now since I have had this beer so many times. Pours a kind or orangish goldish color. To be honest, it looks a little strange coming out of the bottle, but it looks good once it settles in the glass. Head is thick and dense. Aroma is straight up hops. Like that aroma, the flavor is pretty hoppy, but there is some wood and grass in there too. To be honest, I may prefer the straight up Stone IPA, but this does give you some flavor that you don’t get with the standard Stone IPA. Like so many stone beers, this beer has a lot of flavor but it doesn’t overpower you.

Bottle. Gold with little head. Pine & grapefruit hoppy aroma. Lots of pine and marmalade in the taste. There’s actually what would normally be quite a noticeable malt backbone to this but there’s so many hops it’s hard to notice. Very, very bitter at the end. If you like hops drink this, if you don’t...

Sad to see this one retired after years of enjoying it. Massive hops and slight alcohol warmth. Clear golden with full white head. Moderate bitterness is nicely restrained. There may be some Stone beers I enjoy a little more, but this is always tasty.

An unashamed all out hop assault. Perhaps could use a stronger malt profile for balance. Perhaps. But job done. Palate ruined.

Strong floral aroma. the color is a dark orange. The liquid is hazy. The head is frothy. Heavy bitterness when tasted. Full bodied beer, lots of character. It was a bit sticky. Lively carbonation. The finish was bitter. This is a quality double ipa .Good work Stone!

A very good IPA, great balance of aromas and a nice long palate. Bitterness is subtle at first then lingers and lingers. A great example of this style. As already another exceptional beer from Stone.

From draft. Pours a hazy orange, with off-white head. Aroma of floral, citrusy grapefruit. The flavour is predictably full on hops with pine and lemon at the forefront, and floral apricot at the back, but the sweet caramel malts balance it perfectly. Long dry bitter finish. Wonderful.

Strong hoppy aroma, good hoppy flavor to start, just ok on the finish. Lighter color than expected

I know I have tried this before, just never got around to rating it. Aroma is a combo of pine and grapefruit hops with only a hint of malt sweetness to balance it out. I think stone wanted this one unbalanced. Not a particularly attractive beer. Murky light orange color with a huge white head of foam that leaves a mess on the glass as it recedes. Taste is hoppy, but not crazy bitter like you would expect. Grapefruit hops and honey sweetness that linger all the way to the aftertaste which is also hoppy, but still not bitter. The flavor stays with you even when you put the beer down for a while. I like that in an IPA. Palate is substantial and holds up to a beer this size. Not watery at all. Overall very enjoyable. Don't let the name scare you off. You can handle this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
