COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
So called because of the immediate ruinous effect on your palate. 100+ IBUs. Bracingly bitter. Thick, pungent hop aroma. We would say that no hops were injured in the brewing of this beer, but that would be a massive lie. In fact, the words "Stone Ruination IPA" are what older hop vines use to cause little hop vines to quiver with fright and lose sleep at night . We at Stone honor the brutal massacre of countless hops with this "Liquid poem to the glory of the hop!" Paganism at its best!

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2004 Medium amber with an averaged sized off-white head. Piney/spruce smell with hints of oranges. This beer reminds me why IPAs are one of my favorite styles - hops, hops and more hops!

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2010 Bottle - GBBF 2005. A golden coloured beer which pours with a floaty white head. The aroma was good piney hops but not the extreme grapefruit character I’m looking for. The taste and the body are good with nice chewy sticky hops. Slightly on the sweet side. Nowhere near as hoppy as I expected, think it needed chilling a bit more, but a really good (just not outstanding) beer. Score 3.7

Great floral pine citrus smell. Nice dark orange color. Cellared for a couple of months, and found balanced in bitterness and only a bit hoppy

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2007 I tasted this alongside their regular IPA and to be fair I really can’t see a great deal of difference between the brews. Similar orange coloured beer with a white head. Aroma shows pine, grapefruit, other citrus, caramel and cookie dough malts. A bit more bitterness than the IPA but not as much as I expected. Some alcohol starts to sneak in at the end of this one. Less balanced than the IPA.

UPDATED: AUG 17, 2009 10/2/2008: 330 mL from the Bottle Shop in Carrboro, NC. This is the next level of IPA. Everything you would expect in a superior IPA: citrus overtones, hops demolition, creamy, cloudy yellow pour, massively thick head, floral notes, grapefruit. But take one good first sip and you’ll realize this is a new dimension. You have the normal intense IPA feel like Dogfish Head 60, and then before it is over you are warped to the next level. There is an onslaught of bitterness and hops that is hilariously overpowering. Maybe some pine resin in there like the Arrogant Bastard Ale. The aftertaste is entirely off-balance. But hey, who needs barley anyways? 8/17/2009: Aroma is less amazing than I remember: lacks the honey sweetness and fresh citrus of say Port Hop-15, Ballast Point Dorado, Bells Hopslam. Has some caramel sweetness and nutty bitterness. It is definitely still a hop-bomb though. Taste is more herbal hops and raw hops than grapefruity, fresh hops. I guess it’s all about personal preference.

Bottle. Pours dark golden with a medium sized head that doesn’t last long, but with decent lacing. Sweet, grassy aroma, with some hops. Taste is almost all hops with a sweet undertone. Hits all parts of the tongue equally. This is phenomenal.

Draught at Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas during the three day Stone Event, 16-18 september 2011. Clear golden color, big creamy white head. Smell so much citrus, so incredibly fruity, very much grapefruit, hops and especially bitter. Tastes the same, very good hops and very very bitter. Great IPA, absolutely love it!

Poured from 12oz/355 ml bottle into a UK half pint glass at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham - Feb ’12. Pours a hazy orange colour with a good fingers worth of fluffy white head. Hop explosion on the nostrils !!! Lots of pine, citrus, grapefruit and general all round hoppy goodness shooting straight up your nose !!! Very bitter hop flavour on the palate backed up by citrus fruits and a little malty sweetness which teases the mouth in an on / off bitter way. Just the right level of carbonation for a smooth and silky mouthfeel.Excellent IPA, will return to this anytime without hesitation!

Bottle. Golden brown with a big off-white head. Aromas are fairly light malts with earthy dry pine and petrol fume-like alcohol vapours. Flavours are fruity with caramel. Very prickly hops, dry, bitter and mouth numbing in its alcohol. Too strong to drink too many for sure. Almost overbearing.
