Quake1028 (627), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 28, 2007 22oz bomber. Supposedly there’s a date code on the bottle somewhere, but damned if I can find it. Golden orange body with rusty highlights, pillowy white head. Supreme lasting power and excellent lacing for the style. Nose of citrus hops, grapefruits, lemon zest, grassy fields, caramel malts and some herbal notes. Damn, this head just won’t quit. Looks like a cask beer. Fore of the tongue is massive, brutal amounts of hops - I love it! Rolling to the back gets some malts into the fold, but really, this is just a huge hop monster. Mouthfeel is very oily and very slick. Medium carbonation, easy to drink in that sense. Finish is terrific, citrus hops, bitter as hell, then a sweet backing note at the end. Unforgiving for sure. Just hits you over the head with a ton of hops from nose to finish. My burps will taste like hops for days.
Lagunitasfan (39), San Diego, California, USA Aug 29, 2008 On tap today at Stone, then bottle tonight. Damn this is a frigging good IPA. Piny/sweet scent, hops hidden away. Not much foam, but great sticky lace. Sweet taste without being icky sweet. Not gooey like some brews. Nice hoppy/bitter finish. Yum yum, gimme some. rayOfBeer (226), El Cerrito, California, USA Aug 29, 2008 Poured from bottle a hazy light orange with a medium sized white head. Aroma is strong with floral-citrusy hops. Flavor is a combination of floral, orange, bitterness with toasted caramel and hops. There is a great balance between sweet and bitter that makes this easy to drink. Overall a great beer. Enjoy. phishpond417 (1409), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 28, 2008 Pours a deep, dirty copper colour with a huge creamy white head. Instant smack in the face of hoptopia, pine, hopsicles, a dozen lemons and wood. Hoo boy- better then bitter- pungent, dank and stinky. I loved every second of this beer. It was the well hopped salvation I needed to complete this evening. Nothing I like better then getting smacked around with a big hop filled brew. MinetoKuroda (8), Nihombashi Chuo-ku, Japan does not count Aug 26, 2008 On tap. It is Gokujo no Umasa da. Incredibly well-balanced. bitterness is long lasting but it is not iyami na shitsukosa. Muscle but shinayaka. Cruzan59 (141), Lititz, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 25, 2008 1pt 6oz single from Total Wine, River Edge, NJ...pours amber in color with a small white head...aroma is sweet, floral, citrusy...flavor is much of the same with a nice lingering hoppy bitterness...thin but smooth mouthfeel...thin lacing...not an overpowering Imperial but another damn good offering from Stone.
