So called because of the immediate ruinous effect on your palate. 100+ IBUs. Bracingly bitter. Thick, pungent hop aroma. We would say that no hops were injured in the brewing of this beer, but that would be a massive lie. In fact, the words "Stone Ruination IPA" are what older hop vines use to cause little hop vines to quiver with fright and lose sleep at night . We at Stone honor the brutal massacre of countless hops with this "Liquid poem to the glory of the hop!" Paganism at its best!

Picked up a couple of bottles the first day of release. Beautiful aroma immediately after opening. Slightly deeper amber color with a beautiful head that sticks to the glass. Flavors include grapefruit, honey, fresh cut grass and floral notes. The 100+ ibuís are intense but balanced out beautifully by the maltiness, which has a really nice sweet undertone. Started this one out at cellar temperature but it seemed to get better as it warmed up. I must get some more of this beer, it is definately the best offering from Stone yet.

Way too bitter to be enjoyable. Itís like a bad version of the Stone Go To IPA, which is pretty close to ideal in every way. This brew is just overwhelmingly hard to swallow.

650ml brown bottle. Pours golden with haze. Small but clingy white cap. The nose has peels of orange and grapefruit with a little sweetness, nice and bright. Taste has orange peels, grapefruit, lesser pine notes - a zippy hop profile. Medium bitterness, soem grapefruit in the aftertaste and mild malt notes. Medium bodied. Not as aggressive as the name would suggest, but a very well done double IPA, actually fairly balanced and easy to drink.

Smells great, super citrus mixed well with a nice sweet malt. Hazy golden with streaming effervescence and long lasting foamy white head. Tastes very nice and balanced, upfront tangerine melon and caramel malt finish with a lasting bitterness. Bitterness not overwhelming or unpleasant. Medium bodied, average carbonation. A great, if not overly complex, IPA.

(On tap at Akkurat, Oct 14 2014) Pours a very hazy medium orange with a big frothy whitish head and loads of lace. Aroma has lots of pine, grapefruit pith, orange, light tropical fruit, sweet pale malt core. On the palate, fairly sweet but not seriously so for the style. Hop forward to the max, lots of grapefruit and orange zest and orange flesh, dank hop resin. On the finish a huge wall of hop bitterness consumes the beer, grapefruit pith and flesh and a bit of pine needle, lingering malt just managing to hold on. A ton of hop bitterness sticks to the tongue and roof of the mouth at the end. Medium full sticky body with soft-medium carb that fleshes it out. Big bitter citrus-pine style DIPA with lots of bitterness and resin in the mix, admirably dry and not boozy (or really high ABV). Maybe not my absolute favourite profile, and nose wasnít as outright punchy as expected, but still hops hops hops, definitely canít complain.

Pours a hazy orangish copper with a frothy white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, resin, caramel, lightly flowery and light alcohol on the background. Flavor is sweet pale malts up front, caramel, pine, resin, grapefruit, citrus oranges, some fruitiness a bit of dirty farmhouse flavors and then a semi dry super bitter finish thatís balanced very well with malts. In fact by the finish the beer doesnít seem as big as a 8.2 percent beer should seem. Great double!

On tap at craft. I've had this many times but I guess today is review day? Clear gold. Aroma of biscuit, caramel, pine, tropical notes. Taste is sweet and highly bitter. Sticky and creamy.

600ml bottle poured in an ordinary glass. A: Pours an orange to amber color. Clear. Forms a small to medium, creamy, fluffy white head. Medium retention and many lacings left S: Absolutely delicious flowery, citrus, very grassy and piny hops in the nose. What would you expect? Caramel malts and honey to compose... T: Again, delicious, sligthly sweet upfront. Caramel, sweet malts, honey, pine, pineapple, grass, fruit esters, earth, perfect M: Medium to heavy body, medium carbonation, very smooth texture and mouth sensation to such IBU and ABV. Pleasant bitter aftertaste O: Absolutely drinkable. Excellent Stone quality beer. A liquid poem to the glory of the hop! No more, no less... [ BA Review @ 8/31/2012 ]

650 mL bomber. Dated BB 04/14/14, but beggars canít be choosers in Canada. Pours clear and pale with a slight orange tint, a rocky head of white. Big citrus on the nose, tangerine, grapefruit, tropical mango, guava and a bit of resinous pine. Light bready malts that stay out of the way of the beautiful hops. Dry and quenching at 8.2%, all too drinkable with a fading bitter finish. Moderate body and carbonation. Now to find a fresh one!
